Archev's adventures in the Berlingo

It’s an i30 diesel I’m ashamed to admit in these surroundings 🫣
My middle lad has a 2018 i30 estate albeit the 3 cylinder 1 litre petrol.

Nice motor. The 3 cyl makes an odd noise, a little bit gruff, but it's a decent performer.

The boot is humongous!

Death Valley. The Hottest place on Earth.
Supposedly. Hope his Air Con's working.
😉😓😳🙂👍
Just like all Americans think the USA is the centre of the world. Death Valley has an unofficial record of 56.7*C in 1913, but modern verified records are around the 54.5*C ..... certainly hot, but now world record hot ...... they just don't put weather stations out in the hottest parts of Australia, because no one lives there, not even the local tribes .....
I've been caught out attempting to get back from WA ahead of a bushfire, in a diesel Hino minibus/motorhome ..... with a broken governor spring, flat out 50km/h. Limped into the WA end of the Nullarbor to the roadhouse/all in everything service centre.
The radiator has been boiling for the last 4 hrs, don't dare stop, you'd die out there in that heat and zero humidity because of the fires, it would not stop boiling left idling or when I turned it off, 5 pm, so past the worst part of the day.

Went to enter the tavern/bar/eatery, a big round thermometer in the window with icy blue and white looking window paint around it, 52*C, but written below it "but the beer is still cold" ...... only in Australia :ROFLMAO:

I didn’t get far on the final day of ‘25 but plugged the Ohme in to the Berlingo out of sheer habit once I reversed it in to the driveway. I was sitting digging in to my lazy dinner of tinned chicken curry and boil in the bag type spicy rice and a mini coriander naan bread when it dawned on me that
A : I had nothing to drink with it all and wash my evening meds down with,
B : I had given Ohme no charging instructions.
A wee splash of Ribena with a pint of water from the Pananach well on Deeside sorted out A.
I checked the Citroen app to check the Berlingo stats. which said the car was at 74%. I asked Ohme to add 10%, gave the naan 30 seconds in the microwave, and commenced mopping up the curry. 👌
Yesterday, the first of our new ‘26, I went on my first Berlingo expedition for the year. I “did” the bridges. I drove to Queensferry (south) and crossed the Queen’s Crossing Bridge. Then I drove through the centre of Dunfermline and along past Rosyth where one of our new aircraft carriers appears to be back in the cradle of her birth for repairs. I then recrossed the river Forth via the old Kincardine bridge next to the site of our last coal power station at Longannet. I didn’t even notice if there was any of the pile o rubble left from its explosive demise.
My return home took me past the life size model Spitfire marking the old Grangemouth wartime Airfield and through the old BP refinery site. This latter is now owned by Ineos as their petrochemical plant.
So I haven’t done much Berlingo adventuring this year yet. Strangely though my Son has just. Completed his adventure up west of Los Angeles with his new Ineos Grenadier. As I polished off my curry, he sent a couple more pictures of his journey home to San Diego. He returned via Death Valley and the Joshua Tree national park.

I enjoyed his tales and pictures so much I celebrated with some fruit and Greek yoghurt to round off my dinner. Gosh I’ll bet that BMW straight six with the auto box in the Grenadier cost a few dollars on that trip 🤩

I’m thinking of heading off to lunch somewhere today.
I just received a secret communication from Bond, mr Premium Bond, who says he’ll foot the bill 🤩
Now, I only need to check the weather app to decide where the worst of the snow isn’t ’cos Berlingo is still on standard shoes. It sits out there with 86% / 172 miles of go burning a hole in my license which I’m keen to utilise before legislation finds a way to eradicate me from the highways and byways. I promise I can still make out the shadowy outlines of a bus or pedestrians if they keep moving (in groups)

 Today? Head south for goodness sake. Even here requires care although the snow isn't at all deep. I wouldn't go anywhere on summer tyres frankly, but my friend has to get here tomorrow from Glasgow in an elderly Polo in summer tyres so I've told her to leave early and go real slow.

The middle lad's car is currently wearing Mich CC2s. He's looking forward to a bit of snow to test them out! As a matter of course, we have used all season tyres on all our cars since 2010. Most of them have been Mich CC, some of them Bridgestone Weather Control A005/ Evo.

Both tyres have been very good overall. The Bridges were great in the wet when braking, the CCs not far behind, and the CCs are great when cornering in the wet.

The Bridges were good in the white stuff, but the Mich's excel in the snow.

The WC A005 Evo has now been replaced by the Turanza AS 6. I've not tried these.

Has anybody?

I had Cross Climates on my previous diesel Citroens (two Berlingos and my Wife’s C3 )
Then I had CCs on my MG 5 for one season. They are superb tyres in all conditions especially snow.
I’m still trying to decide about them on the e Berlingo as it handles perfectly well (comensurate with its abilities). The tyres it was supplied with last November ‘24 still have plenty of tread depth so I’ll continue with them for now.

Heading off on a 165 mile adventure this morning. Car is at full and saying range of 271. which must be taking account of the weather, currently -2, but no snow. That's a drop from WLTP of 302. Once the heater goes on that will drop considerably as no heat pump, and the heating will obviously be on all the way.
Most of the journey approx 80% is going to be on motorway and dual carriageway as well so it will be interesting to see what I arrive at the end with. Fortunately there are plenty of 7kW chargers at the destination.

Have a great safe trip 👍

Late lunch yesterday was a wonderfully simple repast. Freshly made ciabatta bread liberally sprinkled throughout with many toasted seeds. I spread two slices with olive margarine. Beef paste was liberally spread on one slice. The other received a goodly dollop of pickle and the two were firmly clasped together. I then corner cut the sandwich into four delightful triangles. These were stacked in a box and surrounded with a handful of mini tomatoes. I considered a few olives but forgot about them until I was in the middle of the Forth Bridge. However, I made up some hot blackcurrant juice to drink. I eventually stopped in a lay-by opposite Edinburgh on a promontory on the coastal road near Burntisland and enjoyed a personal picnic as the sun went down and a beautiful big full Wolf moon rose high in a glorious clear sky over Kirkcaldy. I went down into Burntisland and had a bit of a walk culminating with a coffee and the gooiest most deliciously unforgivable chunk of antidiabetic cake imaginable 🫣
Oh yeah - and I never saw a flake of snow all the way.

You should write a travel/recipe book of your adventures

Well we had a completely uneventful trip to Heythrop. We set off the temperature at -2 and it never got above +1. With Heater set on auto after a pre warm, GOM reduced it's estimate to 225 range and so we set off and hit the M1. Mindful of the temperature I decided to moderate speed to 65 on cruise and see how it went. After about 50 miles upped it to 67.
We called in at Leicester Forest East after 99 miles and just under 2 hours for a pee break and a bite. Not my favourite place but amazingly the last place on our direct route to get something easily.
Continued on M69 etc and arrived with 29% after 163 miles and 63 miles on the GOM with 3.6 miles/kWh. That's just 1 mile out of guesstimate from setting off and it didn't know I was going to be motorway driving, as nothing but pootling around the last week and using Google maps on Android Auto. How does it do that?

Sounds like a good trip for this time of year.

Yes, mine seems quite efficient, more so than the 2 MGs I've had but not in the same league as Teslas.
Quite often in the not cold ie anywhere from about 15 degrees upward GOM will show 300 and is accurate but this last trip without heater on it reduced to 274 at -2, and then with heater on reduced again to 225. Quite happy with that.

Our eNiro is more efficient than the MG4 in the summer but slightly worse in winter, but that might be that the OH likes the rapid heat up of the Niro and leaves it on.
