Archev's adventures in the Berlingo

I’m guessing whoever did the test run after the service on the Berlingo yesterday drove it hard in power mode ? I’ve noticed he /she used around 20 - 25 kWh and knocked my economy figure back from the steady 3.7 it’s been at all year down to 1.3 !!!

I would certainly go back in and have words with them. I don't habitually swear but ....

Depends how the figure is calculated. In my MG4, if I leave the car turned on but stationary, the car counts that as lots of time driving but going nowhere. If the heater has been on at the same time, then you've got a lot of power used and no distance travelled at all. I see this effect very markedly if I sleep in the car with the heater on. Of course the MG4 doesn't read below 2 miles/kWh, but it will stick at that no matter how economically I drive from then on.

I suspect they've maybe left the car sitting with the heater on, rather than been flogging it round the lanes.

Possibly, but it has read 3.7 every second I’ve switched it on and / or driven it since February / March. After a wee run this afternoon it’s now showing 2.2mi/kWh. I’ve a jaunt over to Hamilton and back tomorrow so I’ll check it out during that drive.

Unless you had left the car sitting for a while with the heater on, but not moving, you wouldn't see this effect yourself. Sounds exactly like that to me.
Aye it’s possible, I never have the heater on really but perhaps the mechanic did. Strange how it’s never moved from 3.7 and then plummeted all at once. They had the car for about four and a half hours in total.

I had this when I replaced the 12V battery, it reset all the odometers and consequently after the first mile or two it showed a very low 'accumulated' mi/kWh average. It did recover to normal fairly quickly in my case and yours is taking a while so maybe not the same cause.
I was quite annoyed by this behaviour because one of the odometers had not been reset since the car was new and was showing a 4.4mi/kWh average over 3 winters and 2 and a half summers.

I’ve about 100 miles to drive in total today and my overnight charge has set up 199 in “normal” apparently ( still indoors enjoying my porridge )
I usually drive in eco with max regen so that’s probably just north of 200 miles available. Just taken a fruit loaf out of the bread machine. Once it cools a wee bit I’ll load up and head off to see what effect that makes to the outward journey 🤩

After my hundred mile run today to Hamilton and around the area Berlingo now reads 2.6 mi/kWh so getting better again. I don’t think I’ll be going far tomorrow but might go over to Ayr on Saturday so that might help get the 3.7 figure back or something closer to it.

Has anyone been in Tyndrum lately? More specifically the Green Wellie area ?
I’m wondering if they have, or are about to have some Tesla chargers installed???
I might just have a wee trip there for lunch tomorrow and have a wee nose about. OK I could just phone and ask but where’s the fun in that ?
No, a nice leisurely run and roast beef reward strikes me as just sublime 🤩

Dunno about Tesla superchargers being installed, but I've had the Cullen Skink before at The GW Stop ... delicious. 😋
Then you must try the roast beef 👍 available on a bread roll or on a plate with tatties and veg 👌.

Spoiler alert. Looks like a bit wet there over the weekend. I might postpone that run until Monday/ Tuesday when the forecast is drier.

Well, that would be welcome. I've been bitching about the lack of chargers there for ages. There's a Kempower charger at the Real Food Cafe, but it's only about 50 kW.

Be warned. Most of Tyndrum is a mobile signal desert. Be prepared to start the charge with a card, and to be unable to monitor its progress while it's going. This is a particular issue with Tesla chargers, as you're in line for an overstay fee if the charge cuts out for whatever reason and you think the car is still charging.

Good advice - worth heeding- thanks
