I think it is because coal is 'manly' (because it involves dirt, unnecessary risk and horrible death from lung diseases) whereas solar power and electric vehicles are 'feminine.'

Capitalism relies of getting something cheap and selling at the max profit, no matter who it hurts, they will even do it to family.
They don't want to believe their way of making money could be harming themselves, they simply don't care about others, including their kids and kids kids, money is everything to them, let everyone else figure out how to survive, they believe they can buy their way out of trouble .... if they have enough money.
Money is control in a capitalist society, control allows you to make even more money, money blinds them to other people's plight, if it is how they make more money, then it's ok, because they are the smart ones and those not as smart are there to exploit ......

They elected someone who is at the top of that platform, us anyone and everyone, without money you are nothing in his eyes, just there to be used, if you are smart enough to hurt his money making schemes, you will get paid, if it's cheaper to buy favour from the person who could enforce payment, that is the path he will take, that bought favour can be used again because they showed weakness to his money/power/control ..... and that is where the USA is today .... I can't see it ever recovering with the same capitalist ideals, the world is just too smart and fast these days for Ponzi schemes to survive very long

I don't think the USA in general can be blamed for the way DJT is, that can be blamed of no one calling him to task from a very young age .... he developed the idea he could tell any lie he liked and make it accepted as fact by threat or money. Too many of the upper echelon of the US whose who live in a stack of cards reality, they are in the position they are by holding others to ransom, they can't afford any scandal that those they are treading on could use against these virtual blackmailers, to get themselves out from under that blackmail pressure .....

DJT is now discovering that you can only apply so much pressure before something gives, in this case, Mark Carney not only called his bluff, he used fine print rules to fight back with ..... By doing it within the legal frame work, rather than through threats and a balancing act, some of those he'd been holding to ransom have become bold enough to turn against him ..... the house of cards is looking very shaky right now, DJT is losing the strength of the full backing of the USA, the question is, do the upper level govt member have enough backbone to pull the pin on DJT ... knowing the risks they face if/when the other side gains control and starts dragging them one at a time through the courts .....

You can sense the level of fear by the number of these GOP members that aren't in the re-election hot seat, but still have yrs left before they have to face the peoples vote, are pulling the pin anyway .....

Of curse not, but it was the USA that chose to elevate such a profoundly dysfunctional individual to high office. You can't ignore American culture in choosing this path for their country. Remember, in large parts of the USA, when making a trip to the supermarket for groceries, it's considered completely normal to take a machine gun with you. As is having to send your kids to school with backpacks that have bulletproof panels built into them because there's such a high risk of them being shot.

But yes, of course Trump's mental state is obviously a factor in this mess as well. What it comes down to is that Trump now has 3 things:-

Trump is obviously mental, that is an almost given fact: the sad thing is that he appears , at least publicly, to be supported by a significant portion of the population , the Republican party and of course the far if not ultra right of the political spectrum.
The next elections , if they happen, ???? should see him hoisted out , hopefully nature and justice might shorten that timeline , but what happens to those supporters , they will still be around unless they hang their banners onto another rabid messiah spouting the same rhetoric, so even with the figurehead gone the country will be divided for a long time to come . Even if/when the Democrats win the mid terms, they still won't have the numbers to get an impeachment across the line, they would need a 2/3rds majority vote ..... unless a lot more Republicans abandon ship and simply retire, they can't get the numbers.
I think the Democrats will go for the low hanging fruit, the clearly out of their depth people who are DJT's yes men and drag them through the impeachment process showing what they have done was illegal .... they will say they were under instruction from Trump and finally build a case good enough to drag him through the courts ...... or enough of the Republicans will vote with the Democrats to impeach him to save their own skin .....
