I saw this and as the weather has changed to being miserable and wet didn’t know if this is something most people use as of charging outside , I have purchased one just to see if it’s any good .

You'll probably use it once and stick in the boot never to be seen again :) too much faff involved and it's really not needed. Once you get used to it you'll find charging in the rain is perfectly safe and you'll want to get out of it as fast as you can.

/edit - some stuff to do for winter though, drop those over inflated tyre pressures the dealer left you with.
Find the washer filler and make sure it's got plenty in it.
I'll most likely not bother with the S5 but my work car is out in all weathers so I carry a bucket of salt/grit and a small shovel along with extra screenwash (ymmv).

I just can't believe that EVs can have been around this long and they haven't worked out that we are going to charge in the rain, in thunderstorms, in the snow and so on.

I am not sure what is going on here but I have never used anything in 6 years of owning an EV. Just plug it in the design is meant to be waterproof and is safe to use in rain. Thunderstorms ....mmm...personally I wouldn't leave my car plugged in during a storm just in case!

So, if you went to sleep with the car plugged in, and you heard thunder, would you pull on your slippers and go out in the hail and wind to disconnect it?

Yes I would but as I also have a weather app on my phone I may avoid plugging in if forecast. As someone who has seen what a lightning strike can do to electrics in a house I wouldn't take the risk personally.

Well I will try it out but thanks for all the answers to the question, yes I think it is a gimmick and surely the manufacturers have sorted all the IP ratings on charging but I just wanted to buy it 🤦‍♂️🤣🤣

Likewise, I've seen lightning damage on a few occasions, damage varying from failed electronics to vapourised electronics. Take whatever precautions you think needed and hope they are never needed.

If it proves, no good for purpose.
You could always use it as a rain hat.
😉🙂👍

I charged my car whilst surrounded by three separate thunder storms, with loads of lightening around….
Perfectly safe.
As for rain, the whole system is waterproof and sealed when charging. I’ve charged in heavy rain perfectly safely without the need for any protective cover.

May have been unwise holding the charging cable skywards to bottle all that free electricity flying about…..

What about this idea if you are still concerned ?. It will fit on a type 2 lead or the gun on a rapid unit.
It is held to the car by a magnetic strip.

I purchased the black one above , not for protecting against rain but to hide the charging lights that show a copper cable That some tea leaf may consider trying to steal as I always charge overnight. Even though my car insurance covers me for this eventuality the inconvenience is something that I worry about (maybe I’m paranoid)

Nope, not at all Paranoid. Coz we all know shit like that can happen.
But personally I don't think it's likely. That's why I don't bother with owt like that. Same with Faraday pouches, don't bother with them either. If it happens, it happens. But like I say, it's not likely.
But as always, each to there own. No right or wrong. What ever suits. 🙂👍

It's not the rain, it's the weedy flap, I live coastal area the wind howls regularly, one day the flap will bend over, time for a removable flap (push springs affair to release the hinge) or proper catch were you can hold the cap to a fixing point inside the flap port.
Tying it to the charging gun would put pressure on the pins in the port.

Surely must be lots of flaps bent /broken in windy car park etc areas?
