Australian 2026 MG4 models announced

I wonder if the battery box is bigger than the previous model meaning more cells to increase the nom. capacity? or are they using different capacity cells?
LFP is less energy dense than NMC, so my guess is that 64kWh of LFP cells fill the same size battery box as the 77kWh of NMC cells used on the ER.

As far as I can tell, the previous model used the same size battery box for the whole range. The original difference was the 51 LFP had 104 cells nom. 3.2v = 332.8v nom, the 64 NMC battery had the same 104 cells nom. 284.8v nom.

If they were truthful about the 51kwh and 64kwh battery capacity, the 51 would have used 104 x 3.2v x 153.25ah cells to = 51000wh and the 64 would have used 104 x 3.7v x 225ah cells to = 64000wh, so the 77 would have used 104 x 3.7v x 270ah cells to equal 77000wh ......
If they squeezed 130 LFP cells into the battery pack with the same 153ah capacity they could achieve the 64kwh capacity, but at 416v nom. that doesn't fit in the 400vdc architecture, so it must be a combination of 112 cells x 178ah cells with a nom. voltage of around 360vdc ........
The question remains, how did the squeeze the added capacity into the same size box?

This replaces the Essence 64 of old with its 64kWh NMC battery, 18" wheels and a 150kW / 250Nm motor.

The extra 100Nm of torque is really noticeable on my Long Range 77 with 18" wheels to the 250Nm of my wife's Excite 51 with the 17" wheels. Sure it has a 180kW motor as well, but it's the torque that you really notice.
Even with the extra torque the new model is still a little slower from 0 to 100kmh so the reduced power does have an effect.

Oh for sure... It's in overtaking long B Doubles that the extra torque is really helpful.

Of course the extra 55kW of my "77" over the "51" makes a huge difference, but so does the extra 100Nm torque...

The wife certainly isn't getting one if does the 50km/h to 130km/h before she has passed the trucks front bumper, the speed she could reach passing an A double isn't something I'd like to even think about .....
