Should the auto headlights on/off make the dash screens go from dark to light background, when certain ambient light conditions prevail?

But you can change the screen brightness for both lights on and lights off. I've just changed it to a dark theme and so far it seems the best compromise

I think this was covered in another recent thread. Basically the brightness depends on whether you have your headlights on or off. To adjust:

  1. Turn off your headlights manually
  2. Adjust screen brightness
  3. This will be the brightness when your headlights are off.
  4. Next, turn on your headlights manually
  5. Adjust the screen brightness
  6. This will be the brightness when your headlights are on.

Unfortunately, it doesnt change the them from dark to light. I really want that.

Don't hold your breath waiting for MG to admit that there is anything wrong with their cars.
I hate all the auto functions that take control away from the driver. Switching the headlights on when you go under a few trees in broad daylight is bonkers and open to dangerous misinterpretation by other road users. Who thought it would be a great idea to tell the driver to return the steering to the central position when reversing out of a parking space which would result in colliding with cars parked opposite?
Answers to this question and many others, came there none from MG Motors Ltd

The fact we have all these systems isn't MGs fault, it is unfortunate but all new cars need to have them now.

MGs issue is the very poor implementation of these systems

DON'T BE A TWONK. Sadly, the world is now full of Twonks. They are everywhere, especially in Governments that pass legislation requiring vehicles to be able to drive themselves with control by the driver reduced to opening the door and sitting in the driver's seat. In order to secure an NCAP 5-start safety rating, those of us who want to drive a modern car for everyday use (EV or ICE) have to suffer the imposition of ill-conceived and badly designed hardware and software which actually make them more dangerous to drive than my old Jaguar or my even older Alvis. The principle of transferring control of a vehicle's movements to cameras and a computer is fundamentally flawed and is leading to a number of incidents where drivers are blaming the vehicle for steering the car into trouble or slamming the brakes on for no reason. Insurance companies are taking note.
If only there was a way of turning off all this defective, computer-controlled crap with one button, my MG4 would be a great car, easier to control and much safer and enjoyable to drive

I agree, it includes people getting caught speeding and trying to use their sat nav as a defence because it said another speed limit.

Renault seem to have the best set up, they have a physical button to disable the systems that you can save as a profile.

I have a Cupra and the systems in that car are far less intrusive than the wife's MG4 (despite several updates)
