I'm mystified as to why you guys pay 30,000 quid for one of these. I'd be willing to bet they will be around $40k Oz when they come here (roughly 20,000 pounds).

I can understand a bit extra for shipping, and maybe some tariffs on top, but surely a lot of that is "people will pay this price" so we will price it accordingly.

In China the prices are lower than in Australia, so why are Australians paying so much for their cars by comparison?

The purchase price in the UK also includes the "sales" tax (VAT) at 20%. But yeah - we're a (small) island nation and ripe for fleecing; it's not like we have a lot of choice over where we can purchase something like this; everyone will have a UK business presence and so they all do the same to us.

The answer is yes, we get it up the jacksy as well, but it seems MG UK uses the rough end of a pineapple.

That is the advertised price, it's been easy to get an MG4 Trophy for £24,000. I'm sure there will be some big discounts very soon.

And 10% car import duty. And shipping fees and port fees and transporter fees and registration fees and local-market-homologation costs (often done at port). It all adds up and then gets the nice 20% VAT on top!
