Does your home charger automatically resume after a power cut? Mine (Pod-Point) doesn't. I have documented the on-going problems with the low voltage supply elsewhere ( Lowest Declared Voltage Tolerance and Charging ) But add in power cuts [not low voltage - no voltage!] and only one-third of the off-peak charging sessions this year have been successful. In that time we have had 3 power cuts (only 2 when charging). An unusually high number.

My expectation is that a charging session will resume once the power comes back on, allowing for a start delay to prevent a network surge . I did some research to see if other chargers are more tolerant and do resume after a power cut. The summary I got was: "Most modern, high-quality residential EV chargers, and many smart units, feature automatic restart capabilities, resuming charging after a power cut." The short list of chargers with automatic resume included Pod-Point (which I will have to take up with them).

We will be moving soon, hopefully, and I will be looking to purchase a new and more resilient charger. So my question to the learned folks on this forum is Does your home charger automatically resume after a power cut? And if so what is the make and model??

Thanks, M.

Our Givenergy Unit hasn't been through that scenario, but I'm fairly confident it would come back on.

Downside is that Giv and Octopus never got it working with Intelligent GO so can't get the best tariff.

Thanks for that. I'm on E.On Next Drive as it's charger and car independent, and I get 7 hours off-peak (in theory!). But also willing to change energy supplier when we move.

I have a very basic , dumb Morec EVSE and that did resume a charge after an outage. The charge and scheduling is controlled by the car. Other equipment in the house which is wirelessly connected to the modem/ router does not re-start. They come on , but then when connecting to the modem find that the router is still booting up and going through its checks and then they shut off trying to connect after failing to immediately connect. Maybe that's a possibility ?

Thanks. Had thought about that and will try setting the charge time via the car instead of the charger. Or using the granny lead instead, on the grounds that some charge is better than no charge.

Pod-Point did, eventually, remotely identify a problem and sent an engineer round who replaced the circuit board inside the charger. So, basically, the whole works. Not had a problem since, touch wood.

Failed again! Pod-Point cut out early in the morning and had to be restarted, twice. Second time switched to manual mode as I realised that it never drops out in manual mode. Only when in Smart mode, so charging off-peak. Given comments above maybe I should have programmed the charge via the car.
Pod-Point produced a graph showing that the voltage had dropped below the lowest declared voltage tolerance. Unfortunately for them the graph also showed that charging did not resume after the voltage rose back above the lowest level.
This was my final charging session for the MG4 as the car has now been collected at the end of the PCP so will not be monitoring in future. The finance company said they wanted the car charged to at least 80% before collection, and then sent a guy with a flatbed truck to collect it! Had to return as final payment way above current value of the car, even though it has served me well.
Replacement car (not an MG) is late so will be some time before charging again. We're also looking to move and replacement charger will not be a Pod-Point, to many problems and I don't enjoy being fobbed off by them.
Will stay on here as I've appreciated the advice and support over the past three years, and hope I have been able to usefully reciprocate.

Puma-E 2026 model. Replacing MG and wife's Note. Ordered last November delivery slipped to May/June. Not impressed. Having had problems with the MG4 delivery I shall be reluctant to buy another new car! Will go for nearly new.
Looked at the S5 but too big for us. Conversely Inster too small. Not impressed by Renault 4 or Atto 2. Might have considered the Urban if I'd known about it at the time. The issue with the MG4 was width of the sills (as has been noted elsewhere on here) making access difficult for my wife and mother, who are both mobility impaired. The Urban having a different architecture makes it more likely to be OK, as the cut aways on the website suggest, but it's too late now!
Also got the full government EV grant (even though second EV) and multiple discounts for changing brand and not taking their free charger.
