Bought one

I rent my house, and I live in constant hope and expectation of being able to move out at two months notice and move somewhere else.

Under the circumstances, paying out £1500 would be a ridiculous waste of money!

Granny rules!

Ohme Pro has a few nice security features if you are worried some random person will park on your drive for 4 hours

Disable buttons on device
Approve every session (time the charger is plugged in)
Only charge when your tariff is cheap

I used a granny charger when I had an XC40 PHEV, which made sense as it only did about 22m on full charge. Adequate for running the grandkids around, and virtually free when the sun was out using solar panels. But not sorry to have installed a wall box for the MG. Makes life very simple and charge to 80% twice weekly whether it needs it or not.

Surely you would charge them on different days.
Thus increasing charge time to 74 hours 🤣

I'm only teasing, whatever floats your boat. My boat has a shallow draught, so Granny is my darling, but I can completely see why others need 7kW chargers.

Somebody (who is actually a granny, but I'm fairly sure that that is coincidence) gave me a new rationale for the granny charger today.

Her solar panels produce approximately 3kWh, which means that if she granny charges when the sun is shining, she gets free electricity, but if she charges on her 7kWh charger, she pays for it.

Just goes to show "horses for courses"!

The same granny told me that she had initially used a 13A socket in the hallway, but it got dangerously hot, so she had a proper external one installed, so it is a thing, though mine is barely warm to the touch.

But do look out for that.

I have fitted a BS rated EV socket outside it got slightly warm I set the charger to ten amps but it adjusted it self between 12 and Ten as it was charging no issues at all.

You should be fine then, don't leave any of the cable coiled though, that can make it overheat.

I know my Hypervolt has solar integration so it should start and stop charging with the solar and adjust the charge level. Not much use to me as I don't have solar.

If you're on Octopus, and dependent on your mileage (and other factors e.g. whether you have solar or batteries, general household electricity usage/patterns etc etc ) you might want to revisit your tariff.

Tracker seems generally quite good, varies daily and is usually around 20 - 22p a unit all day every day.

There is a tariff which give you a few hours cheap overnight (IOG).

I'm on Agile which changes every 30 minutes. With the OHME you can say I want 30% by 2pm and it will use the cheapest slots. A couple of weeks back there were a few really cheap days (sub 0p a unit for extended periods), On one of those (3 Aug) I used 79kWh and the whole days elec cost (without SC) was minus 0.86p - yes, they paid me!! :-) Using Agile my ytd is 16.3p and the last 12 months 14.9p. I only do about 8k miles a year and don't keep the car at full - I just wait for a windy day of whatever brings the cost down. No battery or heat pump. (E.g. Topping up this afternoon at 13 - 14p)

I was on Agile but doing 6000 miles a year it worked out a bit expensive compared to IOG.

I watched an interesting video about getting batteries for the house but without solar, you charge the batteries overnight and then use them during the day, meaning you only pay 7p a unit for all your electricity use.
