MGS5
After 3 years of happy motoring with my MG4, I have today collected a new MGS5 in Piccadilly blue. Typically it’s been raining so the car isn’t now as clean as it was when I picked it up!

The salesman explained all of the driving aids and a lot of them were familiar. We were going to drive down to the coast but the weather was too wet, we ended up doing around 30 miles which was a mix of motorway and local roads. After popping back home for a comfort break we headed out again, we were aiming for Chartwell but it was just too wet. We stopped off at a garden centre near Sevenoaks for coffee and cake. One thing I forgot to do before getting out of the car at home was save the MG pilot settings so had to reset some on the move.

I made sure that I saved the settings before getting out of the car at the garden centre. We drove home from there along mainly a roads, I didn’t really pay attention to the consumption figures, tbh they don’t worry me.

First impressions, a very nice drive although I didn’t really push it hard. I do have a couple of questions.
The regenerative braking settings didn’t save which I assume is because they’re not part of the MG pilot settings.
I couldn’t work out the adaptive cruise control. It doesn’t seem as easy as in the 4.
Does anybody know how to get the map section in Android Autoplay to fill the whole screen?

I’m looking forward to more driving and having as good an experience as with the 4.

Adaptive cruise control is pretty straightforward. Press the “steering wheel” button once to enable it (it will still be inactive at this stage) then press the left joystick to activate it.

Up and down on the joystick changes the speed, left and right changes the distance from the vehicle in front.

Long press the “steering wheel” button to enable intelligent cruise assist, where it steers for you as well.

Made the same change after 3 years with an MG4, and picked up my MGS5 trophy today. Had a 45 mile drive home from the dealership so had the opportunity to try the adaptive cruise control on the motorway and found it much better than in the 4. Generally the S5 is a pleasant and relaxing environment and whilst it doesn’t match the 4 in the handling stakes it’s still very capable.

A great choice Sir.
I actually liked my MG4 so much I couldn't bear to let it go, so I kept it in the family and every time I get my hands on it now I growl "I always forget how good this to drive grrr....."

But I'm delighted with the S5.
All the interfaces are improved, the LKA is soft and appreciated, the seats still very comfy and the windscreen wipers (very important recently!) are now semi automatic - put in intermittent mode and they react to the level of rain.
Efficiency: seemed to improve a lot from 1000 to 2000 miles. Not often less than 3.2, typically 3.7, and rarely over 4 miles/kw

Most improved? There's an interior light at the back!!! 😂

I am genuinely sad to see the MG4 go. A number of other reasons to change for me, but certainly not how it drove. There is so much to like about the MGS5 though, as the interior, software, ADAS systems are all so much less intrusive and a step up. Adaptive cruise on my 4 wasn’t great but the 5 handles it way better. It does handle well for an SUV as well. It’s just a nice environment to drive in, quiet and comfortable. The sound system could have been better though, and I tweaked some settings to make the best of it.
