I’ve owned my 2023 mg hs for around a year now and so far all has been good however my dad noticed my brake discs and pads were needing some attention and to take it back to the dealer.

The car has only done 12k miles in total and both my back brakes look like this…..

I went back to the dealer and have it booked in to be looked at but after reading some threads I have a feeling this won’t be covered under warranty and they want to charge me £200 just to look at the car. They’ve said that it will be looked over and if it’s a manufactures problem and covered under warranty I won’t need to pay but from reading some threads I have a feeling it won’t be and I’m going to pay £200 for no reason. I know it’s the brake discs but my dad (ex mechanic) seems to think there’s something causing such excessive wear such as seized callipers or my electronic handbrake.

Can I fight the warranty.? I’ve only had it 12 months from Arnold Clark and done 9k miles this year.

I think this typical of an EV that doesn't use the friction brakes on a regular occasion.
Unlike ICE cars, pressing the brake pedal, doesn't necessarily engage the friction brakes.
The motor acts in reverse and converts your kinetic energy to electricity to charge the battery.

I'd cancel your appointment with the dealer, they'll know what's going on, but probably want to charge you big money to fix it. There's been a few instances of that happening here.

Instead, you need to activate the friction brakes for a while, that will make those disks nice and shiny again,
There are a few ways of doing this.
Regen doesn't work in reverse, in neutral or at 100% charge.

So you can find a quiet hill, and either go down backwards or forwards in neutral.
Or keep the car between 95% and 100%, drive round the suburbs with plenty of slowing down.

Braking will probably produce a scraping noise as the disks get cleaned.
Once braking is silent, disks should be shiny.

If this doesn't fix it, then rebook with the dealer, or seek an independent assessment.

Very weird I answered this a few hours ago but my answer got shifted.

I guess your car isn't an EV, that would explain it.
If it is an EV, it's because the brakes don't get a lot of use with regen doing most of the work

Apologies mate, that was my fault, the thread was in the 'General' forum, and I accidentally moved only your post to the HS section, instead of moving the whole thread, sorted now. (y)
