Cannot get CarScanner app to work with my MG5 LR Exclusive

I've had my 2021 MG5 LR pre-facelift Exclusive for about 6 weeks now (bought from Cleevely) and cannot get CarScanner to work. This is what I've tried so far -
OBD dongle: Vgate iCar Pro
App: CarScanner Pro - connects to dongle but fails to connect to ECU after ages trying
Tried using these profiles in CarScanner -
MG5 2021-2022
MG5 EV / Marvel EV / MG ZS Facelift 2022
ZS EV

I've also tried the eZS app - this seems to work well and connects near instantly.

Can anyone shed any light on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

There have been reports of some pre FL MG5s ‘refusing’ to work with CarScanner using a Vgate, looks like yours is one of them?

You could try the ‘tested’ OBDLink LX dongle but make sure you can return it if it doesn’t work.

Is it worth removing the negative terminal on the 12v battery to see if that reset it?

Indeed some just don't seem to want to work with an OBD, see this thread as well

or this one

I just tried the Roewe eRx5 profile and it did connect but only gave a very limited amount of data, most was missing. This is the best I've managed so far. The eZS app connects straight away but gives much less information, it would be nice to get CarScanner to work!

MG5EV profile has always worked for me using a Nexus OBD2 Scanner.
I've ordered one of these from China, half the price compared to the usual big shopping site. I'll update whether it works or not after it arrives in a week or two!

I do use Vgate obdII with Car Scanner (Android) for our MG5 FL. All OK. Just one query; does the App + mobile phone type (iPhone/Android) impact behaviour?

Once you get a successful connection to the car, the data received should be identical.
Generally speaking, it’s harder to achieve stable communication using iOS devices.

Well the Nexas NexLink arrived a few days ago and the results are exactly the same with it as with the Vgate iCar Pro, only the Roewe eRx5 profile connects and then gives very limited info.

Gomev - did you ever get CarScanner working on your car?

Are your settings similar to these?

No I never did. I gave up chasing more and more OBD connectors and the expense and just accepted that it was never going to work. They worked fine on my previous MG ZS EV and also on a Kona EV so there is/was never anything wrong with the connectors or Carscanner.

Here's my settings. The only differences I see are that mine is set to Bluetooth LE 4.0 as in the Nexas instructions, plus the Nexas serial number, mine being from Jan 2025. Just tried again and it does not connect. When I'm next at Cleevely I will ask them to try, bought the car from them and they're only a mile or two from me, which is handy.
