Hi,

I am looking for some advice on what my options are in this situation.

I purchased a brand new MG PHEV outright (cash), with an expected delivery date of 26th March. On the day, I was informed there would be a slight delay, but that the car would still be registered and taxed before 31st March, which they proceeded to do.

At that point, I was told the vehicle should arrive at the dealership during the first week of April, and due to the bank holidays, I would likely receive it shortly after that weekend.

However, when I followed up after the bank holiday, I was informed of further delays. After several back-and-forth conversations, I was contacted again today and advised that delivery is now expected towards the end of April (around the 28th or 29th), although this is still not fully confirmed.

Given the repeated delays and the fact that the car has already been registered and taxed, I would like to understand what my options are. Am I entitled to request any form of compensation in this situation?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mani

Are you sure it's already been registered and taxed, I wouldn't have thought it possible until the Dealer has actually got the vehicle?
yes it is, as i have received the V5 log book from DVLA. I can see the car is taxed as well. that's why it is very frustrating.

Have you already paid for it, I'd be demanding some sort of compensation, maybe the first couple of services free.
No, i have not. just a deposit of £1000.
i would definitely be asking for compensation. that is a great idea of first few services for free. thank you.

anyone else had such scenario before and what did they get in terms of any compensation.

As Clive says I didn't think it possible until the vehicle was physically with the dealer either.

Did you specify it had to be registered and taxed before the 31st of March for some reason? I can see it would benefit the dealer as it would contribute to his / her first quarter sales figures, but how would you benefit?

no, i didnt mention that that car has to be registered before 31st of March. they said to me that the car is getting delivered next week (means 1st week of April) and that's why they are registering it and getting it taxed. now they are saying that there is a backlog of cars waiting to be delivered to the dealers. it is somewhere in a holding depot and will be delivered soon.
really fed up with this.

I’d cancel the order personally, think you’re entitled to, they registered it for their benefit not yours, as it’s registered you have them over a barrel to negotiate a deal. How did you pay the deposit?

i paid by credit card as i heard of how sometimes things can go wrong with these dealers. i did get a good deal but that doesnt mean they can now dont deliver on their promise.
I am thinking of going this path of sending an email to say that i am looking to cancel the order.

Right answer, always use a credit card as much as possible with these things.

As mentioned previously, registration was for dealers benefit, not yours, they promised delivery would be the following week, that has not happened.

Canceling the order will cause them a lot of problems being stuck with a pre registered vehicle.

thank you. I am looking at sending them an email again, asking them a written explanation, potential compensation, a final delivery deadline ( if not delivered by then, will pursue cancellation of the order)

On the subject of “compensation “ for the delay, might be worth getting ahead of discussions on the subject and looking at service plans. As you have the v5 you’ll have the reg, enter that at Service plan MG and see what would work for you.
yes i did get a quote from MG website.
total for 4 years was £1985
Year 1: £193
Year 2: £406
Year 3: £374
Year 4: £901

So i am thinking if i can ask for may be 2 years of free service or something.
