HS PHEV
I have a brand new HS PHEV that has done 50 miles and since I picked it up it has pulled to the left and is a nightmare to drive as you feel like you are fighting the steering all of the time. I took it back to the main dealer who put it on a lazer alinement machine and they stated that its OK and there was nothing else they can do. I took the car out with one of the service engineers who fought the steering, when we came back he admitted that the car 'wondered to the left' but that because of the weight of the extra battery and motors that this was a 'characteristic of this model'. Im sure when I drove the demonstrator it was OK. To let you know it does it on the Motorway as well as local roads and road camber doesnt really make any difference. The main dealer now wants to take it back and have another go at fixing it but to be honest I purchased a new car because I thought that I was buying something that was built properly, tested and then had a PDI not a car supplied with a dangerous fault to which the Main dealer really isnt interested. Is this normal (im sure its not) and what should I do?

I've noticed that with mine too. It's not extreme, but even on straight stretches, it always pulls slightly to the left.
That's probably why it's not really fun to drive with the lane departure warning system. It always wants to veer slightly to the left and then steers slightly to the right again, and it's like that almost the whole time. If the police had been behind me, they probably would have pulled me over and I would have had to take a breathalyser test 😉
I almost always drive the same route, and that wasn't the case with my previous Ford Kuga.

To the forum. Sorry to hear about the problems with your brand new car.
Don't let them fob, you off, with the "characteristic" crap. It's there favourite word. 🙄 That should not be happening on a Brand new car. End of. Anyway hope you get it sorted, quickly. 🙂👍

I had the same thought about the police. I guess its something that people that are thinking about buying one should know if it is a characteristic of this model. I have driven cars from the 1960s that tracked straighter.

Thank you salty, we also have a MG4 which is a fantastic car, hopefully get it sorted

I'm now at just under 22k miles in 14 months and I can't say I've noticed any 'pulling to the left' issues. I run the tyres at 2.4 bar cold and tyre wear is extremely low for a quite heavy car that does corner very well...

I presume you've checked tyre pressures etc (physically rather than going by the car's onboard readout)? Might be worth having an independent 4 wheel alignment check carried out. Skoda suppliers were known to leave suspension transit blocks in place which not surprisingly, caused handling issues. No idea if MG use similar.

I would ask to drive two other similar cars at the dealer and check them out on the same route.

As for dealers assuming customers are all gullible idiots, that really annoys me. My car was supplied by the MG dealer in Milton Keynes. Two issues within the first few days were the front wipers packed up and it wouldn't accept a charge. Mine was the first PHEV they had seen when it arrived off the boat.

The 'after sales' front of house person, who wasn't old enough to have ever been a technician before being the dealer's public liaison technical person, got in the car and said proudly: 'the windscreen wipers don't work'. That was reassuring that it wasn't me. He then went on at great length to tell me that the car will only charge from a granny charger, not a 'wall' charger. I showed him via the MG app owner's manual that it will charge with a wall charger and a granny charger and unlike most PHEVs (at the time) will charge up to 7.2 kW. He said he would have to check with a colleague as he still didn't believe me or the manual.....

Fortunately, MG Banbury (Evans Halshaw) where I now go (they weren't MG at the time I bought mine), are the polar opposite and treat you like a customer and friend!

Definitely take the fight to MG customer services if the dealer comes out with more rubbish. I know there have been poor reports about their helpfulness but when I spoke to them about my issues with MG MK, they were very helpful.

Thank you for your reply. Checked tyres all 27psi. I will contact customer service tomorrow as the main dealer doesn’t want to know. I’m at the point of just walking away as i have a two tonne scud missile parked on my drive that handles like a fishing boat.

I do feel your pain - believe me, when you get it sorted, you should be really happy with the car. Including its handling.

Do you have another dealer you could approach as well as contacting MG. Make sure, and I'm sure you will, about the dealer's insulting comment about battery and motor location....

Good luck.

Had my HS PHEV since April 25. Never had an issue with the steering pulling in any direction.
I know it is not ideal but you could reject the car, that might also stop the dealership trying to fob you off with meaningless explanations, in the hope you get fed up.

I have ended up doing this, I will just buy another one from someone else!

Good call @Boatmad, I think you have done the sensible thing.
A nuisance, but I'm sure you will enjoy the car (if you decide on the MG HS PHEV again)
I have had no problems with mine 🤞!
Good luck and Happy New Motoring Year.

@Boatmad Hello, I've been searching forums for that last couple of weeks and just stumbled on this! I'm sorry to hear that you had the same problem, good on you for rejecting the car - I've just done the same today!...We picked up a brand new MG HS 2025 PHEV in mid December 2025. It was my wife's car and I drove it to work a few days after she got it and noticed straight away that the steering was pulling to the left. We took it back to the dealer, they checked it over and couldn't find the cause so raised a query with MG technical support in China. They came back with some additional tests to perform, but the dealership explained that they didn't have the experience, knowledge or tools to be able to do this so it would have to be sent somewhere else. The dealership have been a complete pain to deal with, I've had to constantly chase them and no progress was being made on getting it resolved. I today finally managed to speak to the Sales Manager and I explained that I don't have any confidence in the fault being resolved and so would like to reject whilst we are within the 30 day period. I'm returning it next Friday and we are going to look for a different car.

I’ve got the same problem and the dealer did the same for me and told me all was set as should be. I’ve more or less sorted it by reducing the offsite tyre pressure by about 3lbs to generate some drag. The car now more or less drives without it pulling to the kerb. I know and understand your Frustration and yes i know the tyre may not wear as should but that’s a small price to pay to relieve my wrist from permanently pulling down on the left of the steering wheel.

What a load of B------S to state that it's characteristic with the car. I have had mine 6 months from new and never had any problems with the steering. Isn't it hilarious the crap they come out with when they haven't a clue how to rectify issues. I wonder what page it's on where they must state "if you can't rectify the problem you must say it's a characteristic of the vehicle. Though I must admit you would think the tyre pressures would be the first thing to check.
