Made a mistake and missed the motorway junction. Fortunately the next one to turnaround was close. But made me think that if I'd been low on battery and the next junction was not very close it could have been awkward. But then the same could have applied to low on petrol!

If you were in the situation of having a low battery you'd drop your speed to 60 mph, turn off the AC and look for a place to charge near the next exit or service station. As you say it's the same for an ICE vehicle.

I guess the moral of the story is don't try and get to your destination with 10% or less charge. It's better for your health to do a splash and dash even if you don't actually need to.
