charge cable

Really? I didn't think MG supplied a cable?
Mine didn't.
On this question....which cable type?
I have an old one I bought for my old plug in Prius, it only seems to allow 5kW.
I'm looking to buy a new one.
Can the IM5 take the 3 phase 11kW ones?
The manual says 11kW?
If it's type 2 to type 2 - it must be ok 🤔
Any advice welcome.

Seems to be a lot of variation on this one, I go by what the configurator says on MG site, type 2charge cable is listed with the car, that’s what I got with mine, granny charger is not listed but some dealers supply them.

type 2 to type 2 cable
i have just got a 3 phase cable for when i have to charge away from home. The one supplied is a single phase 7kW.

Goon, expand, seriously I'm listening.
Yep.
You can get....
Simple single phase 3.6kW
Ditto 7 kW
Any more and you need a three phase cable.
The wires are rated at 32A
The beauty of three phase is you can send in one phase slightly after the other to the onboard charger without increasing the maximum current in any one wire. This is why some commercial chargers are quoted as 7kW, 11kW or 22kW.
How much your car can take depends on the charger in your car (for AC charging).
I believe the IM range has a three phase 11kW charger.
If you just buy a simple single phase cable (max charge 7kW) then that's all you'll get. Even if the charging point says up to 22kW.
To go beyond this you need a three phase cable and a three phase configured charger.
That's why I asked.
If you want to take advantage of an 11kW charger - you'll need the appropriate cable - three phase - type 2 to type 2 and clearly marked power level.

Hope that clears that up!

Worth noting that most domestic properties are only single phase and would require a 3-phase upgrade through your network operator, so check before you go for a beefier charger that you can't get the full benefit of.

Google can help you identify what you have if you're not sure

Just buy the highest rated cable, capable of 32amps. Then you are safe in all cases, and don't need to buy a new cable if you change to a car with higher specs. Price difference isn't that much.

Yes and that's quite expensive just for a few more kW.
The cable was intended for on the road charging.
I have a tethered cable at home.
The 7kW is fine.
Overnight charging puts 35% back in.
Which is great for our use.
My current on the road cable is an old one - 5kW?
So I was keen to replace it with one that was capable of doing 11kW.

Fair point, both. Removed my caution about the cable and kept it to the charger only. Absolutely makes sense to have a cable that can support higher public outputs if you're in the market for one (y)
