I hope I am not duplicating others' efforts, but if so could someone please direct me to the relevant thread.

I am considering taking my MG4 on a trip to mid-Wales (Aberystwyth area) in spring next year. I have looked at ZapMap and charging sites seem to be relatively rare. In Aberystwyth there is an Instavolt at McD's and an Mfg at Morrisons, but it is not clear whether this one takes credit cards. The chargers at the Vale of Reidol railway appear to need a subscription to Dragon charging. I have recently had trouble trying to use Tesla superchargers, so would like to try to avoid those if possible. I would be very grateful for any information. Is the area as much of a desert as it appears to be?

TIA

Check out the Tesla app.
We used one near Newport and on Anglesey. We were going to use the one in Aberystwyth but the Airbnb we stayed in near Cardigan had an EVSE.

What trouble did you have at the Tesla ones, they are possibly the easiest of all to use so long as you use one that is open to all (Aberystwyth is).
There is also the The National Library of Wales, SY233BU which has 70 chargers, yes seventy, including CCS 75kW and type 2 22kW run by Fuuse and contactless, but can use your Electroverse card there too.

I have the Tesla app on my phone and have set up an account, but at the moment, when I try to sign in the app simply repeatedly returns me to the sign in page. As you can see, I live on the Isle of Wight and unfortunately there are no Tesla chargers over here, so I am restricted to try them on the relatively infrequent trips I make to the "North Island". I had some issues setting up the car, and have the make and model currently set to "other" since MG is not listed. I assume that this is correct.

I will have another look at the app and see if I can work out why it doesn't seem to like me!

Any further information will be very gratefully received. Thanks.

STOP PRESS

Out of curiosity I have just tried running the app again, and wudyabeliveit, it has let me in this time! What on earth is going on!!!???

I experienced something very similar with the Tesla app several weeks ago. At first, I could not log in and then, suddenly, for no obvious reason, the problem disappeared. I have since used it to successfully charge at the Tesla chargers in Norwich.

Who understands the mysteries of phone and computer apps???

Completely OT: but my wife and I are hoping to visit IOW next summer. Any advice on charging points/places to use. We expect to be staying near Ventnor.

I will have a look, but as I charge at home at the moment I have little idea of what is out there. Watch this space.

Edit. There is not a lot in the Ventnor area, but nowhere is very far on the Isle of Wight. The ones at the Botanic gardens in Ventnor are not working as far as I know. Morrisons at Lake has 2 MFG chargers that I have seen in use recently and there are 2 Instavolts over at Ryde McDonalds. There are quite a lot of MER 7kw chargers (bring your own cable) dotted around the island mainly in Council car parks. Your best bet is to look on Zapmap I think. Good luck!!

ps where are you staying near Ventnor? I am about 3 miles away.......

The charging infrastructure in mid Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 is a bit thin on the ground unfortunately, it has to be said.
Take your Granny lead and an extension lead, you never know your luck 😅.

I have done the trip from SE London to Aberystwyth loads of times. The chargers available in Aberystwyth are pretty good for a small town; there are a couple of locations with 50kW+ DC chargers (Morrisons, Tesco and the University, behind the security building and canteen, the National Library, McDonalds and a few Tesla chargers) and there are several locations with 7kW AC chargers (again I tend to use the university ones, opposite the same canteen) for overnight charges. The security people are great there.

The Dragon chargers which appear all over the place in Wales, especially in town car parks, can be accessed using the app but you can use the website and charge as a guest with no hassle.

In short, although the chargers can be a bit sparse there are options and I have never had any major issues with any of my numerous visits.

That all sounds just what I need to know. Thank you. I shall continue with my plans for a visit I think.
