This is a bit like a thread on 'historic injustice' on one of my online courses!

The example there is the Norman Conquest but that one is too far back and Normans and Saxons are now intermingled.

I think if someone is getting some kind of ongoing benefit from an historic injustice it is a bit morally questionable.

In other news, that new Nissan Leaf is looking more attractive isn't it? Surprisingly good drag coefficient and efficiency.

I'd be asking why things went so badly when the Romans left us and we entered the Dark Ages. 😵‍💫
Apparently we don't refer to them by that name any more - either "Early Middle Ages" or "Late Antiquity" is preferred - because they weren't really dark, lots of good stuff happened then too and the old name has negative connotations.

Now, where's my paddle and where's the "back-on-topic" dry land?

A woman interviewed on BBC Alba this evening was bang alongside you on that one. Do you follow Angry Pict (@symbolstones)?

On the other hand, this could easily turn into a bit of a row and there is a serious danger I'd be in the middle of it, so maybe we should all back off and get back to slagging off China.

Medieval times.

Dark Ages because we went backwards, surely?

The Romans demolished everything they built.
They built a very strong and very rich religious base, they didn't destroy, they transformed ..... What ever happened to the wood test?

This has got very political very suddenly. Lots coming out at the moment about what actually happened in 1707, and what didn't happen. No great mischief I suppose.
Saved it for you, threw in some religion as well to keep it spirited :cautious:

Not really a row if things are factual😁

Apparently not, or at least we went forwards in as many things as we went backwards.

I thought they left and we demolished everything they built?
Rail gauge and road width relates back to the Romans, that was the width of their wheel spacing .....

Dark ages because there were very few records from that time, apparently.
You missed "left".
There were plenty of records, some are still being found. There are suggestions electricity might have been around during that time, but it went against the beliefs of the religious control at the time, so anything that didn't hold them as being the knowledge of all things as the earthly representative of god, was destroyed.
Witchcraft, a perfect example of Arthur C Clare's 3rd Law "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic".
The advent of the printing press is probably the most important achievement that moved us on the from the Dark Ages, too many people learned to read and the control of peoples minds was lost ....
