Anyone found a good way to change their phone in the MGS5?

The wireless charger gets really hot. The USB ports are in a box that taps heat.

The best I have come up with is to use the rear charger and a long cable to the space under the centre console.

Anyone found a better way? The USB ports being in the box is a bit of a pain. They should put one under the console.

I assume you mean "traps heat" and, if so, I guess that's only a problem if you put the phone in the box?

I run a cable from within the box, under the lid and put the phone either on the pad, in the little pocket or in a mount. There is no problem with that.

I've even got a wire that matches the fascia (I mean, I already had it, I'm not obsessional enough to buy one!!)

The heat doesn't do your phone any harm. Just as with your car if the phone/battery gets too hot the charge controller will cut the charging off.

Even better, if you buy the MG Titan tray that fits in the centre box, it has a hole in it to pass the cable through :)

I don’t know if it’s because I have a large phone IPhone max but I don’t get any issues with the wireless charging

Do you have a case on your phone Dave? I have a genuine Apple MagSafe case and find the phone will charge initially but then stops very easily if it moves around on the pad. I also found it got very hot but then the weather has been warm lately.

It's the magsafe ring on the case, the car's charger doesn't like it. I have the same issue.

I can't see any options in settings to turn off the Qi charger, anybody found one? I would be happy with a cable running from the box to the phone but wouldn't want the Qi on as well.

I do have a case with magnets but only to hold the wallet in place it’s also leather backed which may help with keeping it in one place

Because I'm a nerd I spent a lot of time experimenting with wireless charging. The amount of heat depends on the alignment of the coils. Even being a few millimetres out makes a big difference. By chance I found a charger that aligns perfectly with my phone, and it doesn't get hot if I use a low power charger (I think it's 5W from memory).

Having the metal ring for Qi2/Apple makes the heating much much worse if the coils aren't perfectly aligned. Some of the cheaper chargers have everything aligned by the coil is too big and heats the ring up too. Hopefully now Qi2 is standardised it will become less of a problem.

Today I did a long trip and found that the best solution was to use a clip on phone cooler and wired charging. Wired charging produces less heat anyway, but also you can use wired Android Auto. I found that Bluetooth audio skipped a lot, but USB was fine.

Think I will put a USB C cable in the storage box and just use that when I want to charge the phone with the phone in the slot holder. I am lucky not to need to charge my phone very much in the car as mainly short drives.
