New guy saying hello.

Until a month ago I had a 2021 Yaris Hybrid

Which was OK at the start.

But then I quickly found out any kind of hill was its kryptonite, revs high and not very good at them at all, over 5 months I'd had enough and got rid and bought a Mazda CX-3 2.0 manual

Which is OK, but I should have bought an auto one.

So looking to back to an auto, and the stonking performance of the MG3 is very attractive to me

Reading here I see it has hill issues as well, but there is a global update which is supposed to fix it?

Anyone had the update?

I have had an MG3 hybrid for over a year it’s been great never had an issue with hills in fact it has lots of power and fun to drive.
I am trading it in for an MG5s as I want to go completely electric. I have enjoyed the MG3. No car is perfect but I thought it was great value for Money.

I agree with Dave. Had mine 12 months, great little car. The power and acceleration is simply brilliant. Never had any issues, but I haven't tried hills, so can't say. The car is comfy, absorbs pot holes and I'm regularly showing 65+ mpg. Can't fault it. Aitch

I do have the software version that over revs, even on small slopes at 20mph with 50% battery. I can get 4500rpm there! It is being sorted soon. If you have a version of the software that doesn't rev, stick with it!

I have had mine about 4 months. Generally a good car but damn noisy uphill with the over revving. Also very noisy with the number of 20mph speed limits cropping up more and more which is largely due to the auto box being 3 speed so until it changes it is very noisy at low speeds. Previously had clio hybrid which whilst not as quick had a much better drive train being I think 6 or 7 speed auto so was never over revving. I swapped as thought I'd try a change but when the new clio comes out in a few years time will probably go back to one or a R5

I've had my MG3 Hybrid Plus Trophy since January and I really enjoy it. As far as hills are concerned, I've been up Garrowby Hill in East Yorkshire several times, and had no problems. It's been as far as 60 mph in electric mode.
It's the first automatic car I've owned in 48 years of driving, and it's so easy to drive. MPG fluctuates between 55 and 65 mpg, depending on where we have been using it .
Insurance was £460, not too bad.

Crikey insurance was steep, just renewed mine with Churchill £204 fully comp 6k miles pa

Hybrids have passed their usefulness, fully electric is the way to go.

You need to talk to bev owners. Charging point issues are long gone. Even in Cornwall where I live, charging is not an issue. Unless you can't charge at home or work then it would make a bev less attractive.
I was totting up the number of rapid chargers in Exeter last week and it's around 150 with countless slow charging points as well.
We frequently travel from the UK to Europe covering hundreds of miles, electric works fine.

But not in the Highlands of Scotland, I've seen countless takes of stranded cars run out of charge

Perhaps you should post a question on the mg4 and MG5 forums and see what real bev owners in Scotland say. Too many non ev owners posting rubbish. Kind regards Julian

The main issue with the hills was if the car was on cruise and you were gaining speed as it went up a hill, it would literally freeze and just stay at the speed it was at at that point, I have had the update, and the car is WAY better, it seems quieter, quicker, goes up hills easier and gets to top speed (set on cruise) with ease, it also seems to be a bit more economical, I did a 25 mile journey twice today, 63mpg on the way there and 68 on the way back, it flittered between EV and HEV without issue and the majority of times without even noticing - yes it still does the high revs, but then thats what charges the batteries, so it will, like all hybrids, do that, I have no issue with it, I just toggle the speed limit down by 1 mph or ease off the go peddle and it drops back to normal.

I have over the years had some really expensive cars, quality cars, but so far this has beaten them all, the amount of kit for the Trophy model, comfort, economy, etc etc etc, has not been beaten by any other car I have owned.

And don't get me wrong either, there are hardly any charging points in some areas of Scotland and where they are us always a queue. Why people think that waiting an hour to charge a car when touring beats me. Electric is great but hybrids give you the freedom. Let's leave it at that, you won't change my views, even if you think they are rubbish and and I have no intention in trying to change yours

I have had a MG3 hybrid for just over a year trading it in for MGS5 so first EV
The MG3 has been great and best value car I have ever owned. Looking forward to joining the EV club because I believe it’s the responsible thing to do.
