Converting home charger tethered to untethered - anyone done this?

I have a podpoint 7kw home charger and went for the tethered fixed cable option. This has worked ok for me up until now. I now want to use the Ohme cable to take advantage of cheap night rate electricity but if I do I need to have an untethered type 2 female socket to plug into on my wall box. As far as I know the Ohme cable can’t be plugged into the existing tethered type 2 male connector Has anyone swapped back to untethered? Is this a feasible option?

I thought the same. I’ve had 10mins searching and can’t find any.

I think I could get a type 2 female end for my existing cable and replace the current male with the female. However, there wouldn’t be any solenoid locking on the joint (not necessarily an issue) so could be easily pulled apart. I’m surprised that there’s not more out there on this topic.

I take it from your information that this pod point is not a SMART charger asI would have thought all SMART chargers can be timed to come on at night...If it is not a SMART have you thougt of just putting a timer at the supply end of the circuit thus no need to change from tethered?

Thanks for your response. In actual fact it is a ‘smart’ charger. There is a also podpoint app but with limited functionality. podpoint advise that they’re looking at timed charging. Sometimes being ‘smart’ can mean how the charger interacts or the handshake with the car. So, as yet you can’t time charge with podpoint. I like the idea of an inline timer of some sort but would need to get an expert to fit one And i guess it would involve manually setting this To charge at the required time.

Yes .. to check that it would work I would suggest you set your charger to on and then turn the supply to charger off for say an hour..when you turn supply to charger back on both the charger and the car should go into charge mode.....if it works it should be cheaper than changing charger

Thanks. I’m still hopeful about finding a cable adapter and using the Ohme cable which will plug straight in.
