Just had a notification from our fleet department that MG have extended all their delivery dates.

My MG5 ordered late September has had it's estimated delivery date pushed back from 20th January to 7th May with this message:

"Due to a global shortage of semi-conductor chips delivery lead times have been extended".

This ties in with someone who said a few weeks ago they have loads of cars built but no chips to go in them.

I might send them some McCain's...

You're making me nervous about what I've been told about my delivery. 😬

I have a friend trying to buy a Range Rover but cannot for the same reason.

I wonder when the last car was built that didn’t need microchips?
I'd guess sometime in the late 70s/early 80s that had points and condenser ignition, although the radios could have had microchips in.

I had to repair the ECU in my 1980's Austin Maestro. New ones were hard to get and ruinously expensive. Luckily mine was one of the early ones with a standard PCB and I could resolder the joints around it integreted circuit(the chip)

Later ones were potted in resin, less likely to fail but unrepairable.
