Discount of up to £3,750 on electric cars set to slash costs for thousands of UK drivers

Drivers across the UK will soon enjoy discounts on dozens of new electric car models after the Transport Secretary today (15 July 2025) announced a £650 million grant scheme worth up to £3,750 per car, putting more money back in working people’s pockets as part of the Plan for Change and making owning an electric car a reality for thousands.

Doesn't say owt about that on the Government website or Carwows who are usually pretty good. And soon as you mentioned "Newspapers" nuff said.
Think it's a load of cobblers.

That was my immediate thought too. Just like when the subsidy was cut the prices went down to maintain sales.
However thinking about it, we know the prices now and it would be a bit obvious if they put them up.

Why would dealers, put prices up. It's not costing them owt. The government's paying any shortfalls. Infact it's good for dealers, it should draw more punters in.

That is correct.

The 10% grant is dependant on low embedded emissions, copying the French model, which is so strict only French manufactured cars plus a few can comply!

China could comply if cars were manufactured in a factory with low carbon electricity.
