Discount of up to £3,750 on electric cars set to slash costs for thousands of UK drivers

I see that leapmotor have already announced the "leap grant" of £3750 off a c10 and £1500 of a T03.
Surely only matter of time before other Chinese brands do the same .

There's an absolutely mental personal lease offer on the Leap C10 at the moment :-

It seems like some of the Chinese manufacturers are using the grant as a way of advertising their cars whether or not they will get it from the government !! They just call it an EV Grant but don't say who's paying for it 😊😉

Makes sense for them to do that whilst the wait to see what the government offer on Chinese vehicles (if anything). Without doing that, people are either going to wait or buy other vehicles, which will mess up their sales targets!

Not a well worded advert though... I'd prefer "£1500 off MG4 EV & MGS5" ;)

That's bonkers!
A bonkers deal or did you mean @Bam Bam is bonkers for not being aware of Leapmotor

Not sure the deal is that good myself - it's still £1800 up front so a total of £5000 for a 5,000 miles in a vehicle for 2 years that is not yours at the end of it. Much better, IMHO, to buy a 2nd user quality EV for (say) £15,000 and run it for 5 years yourself - but that's just me.

That would be my approach as well.

But someone has to buy/lease new ones for us to have the second hand ones available.

(y)... our nice 'motability' funded cheap used vehicles ;)

If you can drop on a good MoBo car, they are great. Unfortunately some are aweful.
obviously a good shop around and check over the car, is needed. Also most are low mileage and regularly maintained and seviced. As much of a bargain, as they can be. They certainly don't give them away.

MG are offering £1,500 as a "government EV discount" on top of heavy discounts on new cars, including the MGS5.

Essentially what they have done is just drop prices and tell people part of the drop is the EV grant, even though it actually isn't yet since they aren't on the scheme (yet). My guess is if they get on the scheme, they'll just up this to a higher figure.

When you combine some of the discounts (I'm seeing £5.5k-£7 off new MGS5s), it is every bit as good as other makers, rendering moot the question of whether they qualify for government subsidy.

Don't think the grant will mean much to most new MG purchasers. Affinity scheme price is about 6 grand off the MGS5 Trophy add the 1.5 grand, MG extra grant.
That's still only 7.5 grand. Yet we are regularly seeing 10 grand off MGS5 Trophys. Which a few members on here, have taken advantage of. 🙂👍

Well both , LOL
I take your point but how much would it be worth in 5 yrs time and if you're planning on buying with cash how much would you need to save a month to buy something else ,around 250 a month? Unless you've got oodles of cash lying in around plus. If you're financing the rate will be higher on a 2nd hand car. No matter how good the 2nd hand car is , the warranty will be shorter , you probably won't get roadside assistance etc .blah blah blah
At the end of the day it's horses for course .people who like to buy with cash will, people who like to lease will, people who like pcp's will

It's always sorted me to have PCP's but I'm 5 years from retiring with luck so I'll probably buy a incredibly cheap demonstrator ( poss not MG) , hp it over 5 yrs and then own it out right .
