Does the service plan cover any/all required updates?

It depends on the type of update, if it's fixing a fault it should be free. If it's an update that adds extra features (like CF2) then they can charge, extra for it.
They might not do any updates at all if you haven't asked for them.

Can you check somewhere that tells you if it has the latest update and if are needed?
 
The only update that is worth having is CF2.
Others updates can cause problems too.

If you have the clock on the dashboard and no weather at the top of the infortainment home screen then you don't have CF2. Most current cars will come with it from the factory. That is for ZS.

For MG5 there are no updates that are needed.
 
I picked the car up 10 days ago would you expect it to have CF2?
