I wonder why there are such big regional variations in price.

Different costs for the various DNO's. UK Power Networks, covering most of London, SE and East Anglia is one of the cheaper ones as we're more dense in this part of the country

I'm still baffled by that email, which was from Octopus not Electroverse. I emailed Octopus and they said they couldn't find an account linked to my email address at all, which is worrying, and asking me for my full name, address and account number. I sent these back last night, but still no reply to that email.

However, this morning I woke up to a completely different email, also from Octopus.

Scroll to the end of the email, and I find this.

I'm pinching myself. That surely has to be too good to be true!

I don't know what's going on with the other email but it looks increasingly like a mistake.

As well as the regional difference I think it depends what deal you were on previously.

Everyone basically gets 3.5p off whatever deal they already had, until that deal runs out.

I think that's it. I fixed my prices on 13th October last year, and my fixed 7p/unit has gone down to 3.5p/unit, held till 13th October this year. It's an incredible deal.

E.on have pulled their EV tariffs again.

The standing charge of 60p per day is steep and would amount to £55 pa more than my current 12 month fix on Octopus Go.

A quick look suggests the Eon night rate covers whole house usage, not just EV charging - something they have given contradictory information about in the past.

Given my usage I think I’ll stick to Octopus.

Hi. For us the Eon current tariff does include whole house usage, midnight to 7am rather than 7am on our current tariff. Our washing machine, dishwasher and tumble dryer are all programmable for a deferred start so they now all run overnight when we use them.

You need to take into account that the price is different in different parts of the uk it’s not one price covering the uk.

Just call them I spoke in the week with them, the above is true all to do with the government £150 off which takes effect on the 1st April and is not a April fool.

They sorted it out. It was a complicated mix-up. The bottom line is that as of 1st April my electricity will be 3.49p/unit and while I know it's not an April Fool it's still quite hard to believe.

My next drive Eon tariff ends in June but have not transferred onto the April to April v17 tariff which looks good. One difference is only 6 hours at cheap rate compared with 7 hours on the next drive.
With the ongoing problems with oil in the world I would suggest switching to the v17 tariff as soon as possible.

I'm glad I switched last week as v.17 is no longer available. They have just released v.19 with the following prices with the April 1st reduction:

Electricity
Peak rate 29.62p/kWh
Off peak (00:00 to 06:00) 9.0p/kWh
Standing charge 60p/day

Gas
7.8p/kWh
Standing charge 28.82p/day

New Octopus Intelligent Go fixed day rates and SC are even worse - In my area

Just run the figures of eon and octopus for my usage for Jan and Feb.
Although octopus has a higher day rate, overall they beat eon by about £5 per month. Know that eon give 1 hour more cheaper, but do I need it, no.

Rate for my area

Eon. Standing 60p, cheap 9p normal 30.88p

Oct. Standing 50.53p, cheaper 6.99p normal 34.31

Currently on eon

Standing 48.64p cheap 6.7p normal 28.53p

I should have waited to fix my Octopus tariff. I saw someone on YouTube saying they had fixed in February so were now getting the ultra-cheap rate till next February. But I was worried they'd pull the offer to fix, so went for it when I first heard about it.

Still, I have over six months to go.

I'm on British Gas V3 tariff & didn't bother with their EV tariff as I only charge up once or twice/month, I get half price electricity for five hours every Sunday with Peaksave Sunday, so I get all the laundry & tumble drying done then & being retired I only need to charge up every other Sunday for our usage.


Any Time unit rate 26.48p per kWh

Standing charge 49.92p per day

After all this kerfuffle Trump is causing has died down and prices have stabilised I'll have to get the spread sheet out again and check an EV tariff is still the best for my needs.

I know in the past there has been only £30 to £40 per year in it so I'm only just over the tipping point and personally I've always had good customer service from E.on.

I signed up for a new fixed price deal with EDF just before it all went crazy.
The electric is now fixed for 12 months and the gas for 2 years.
Strangely enough, I received an e.mail from them just this morning with some great news.
They have increased the off peak time period from the current 5 hours, out to 7 hours now AND reducing the tariff rate !.
