Hi everyone,

For a while I have been trying to work out the best way to mount a rear dash cam.

In the past I have managed to stick it to the frame of the rear hatch, but that leaves you with the hassle of threading the wire behind the trim and through the rubber grommet, or just letting it dangle from the edge of the headliner. The latter is easier but looks messy and the cable often gets caught in the rubber seal which could lead to water ingress.

Having tried to knock up a bracket that clips under the edge of the headliner and failed I came across a guy on eBay that had made such a bracket using 3d printing, however this was for a BMW estate.

I took a punt and purchased one, it arrived well packed and very quickly.

Tried it this morning and it fits perfectly. Well pleased.

This provides the perfect platform to attach a camera, and the cabling is far simpler. Also no damage to the car.

Pictures attached, last one from the advert as not had cameras fitted yet.

eBay item 125409421166.

Just in case it's of interest.

Fab, thanks! Would you let us know how it goes once camera fitted and whether it tugs/pulls down the trim at all. It'd save me a headache come time to remove the camera also, so am interested in the item

Hi,

The link is

I doubt it will pull down the trim unless you mount a heavy camera. I'm going for a nextbase 622gw with the rear window camera.

It will take a few days to get an update both due to camera delivery and likely to need to get help fitting due to health issues.

Will keep you posted.

I bit the bullet and ordered one. At this price I figured it's worth a punt, and I can't complain about speed of service as it's been delivered already. Will provide an update as to whether it worked in my ZS once I've eventually done the camera install.

Hi,

I had a quick look earlier to get an idea. Offered up the rear camera and it looks like it will fit well on the bracket and get a good view. This is with the Nextbase rear camera.

I think it would get a slightly better view if mounted directly on the rear window as it would see down more, but overall it seems a good compromise.

Picture taken holding the camera in place.

When fitting the bracket I found it best to pull up the seal, pull down the roof liner then slide the bracket at an angle initially over the liner.

Thiis is great, thanks! That view should be perfectly fine for my needs - I'll just be glad to simplify running the cable ect. Will hopefully also have something to share once I finally get the car.

Hi,

Had a further offering up session yesterday, the Nextbase rear camera does fit ok and seems secure.

Due to health issues I've not fitted further but good to know it's an option.

I have booked Cleevely EV to do the installation on both our cars.

The picture is good but as the bracket is set back slightly as opposed to if it were on the rear glass or hatch, the view isn't as far down. Similar to looking over a cliff edge, further forward you are the more downward you can see.

All in I think this is a good solution.
