Full tail light on SE

I'm still waiting for the delivery. But another user in an Italian Telegram group has already installed it. It's not plug and play. He took power from the licence plate lights. He said it wasn't the easiest job. there are very rigid interlocking pieces to pull. Unfortunately he didn't take a video or photo.

Today, I installed the full tail light on my SE. I did not use the power feed from the license plate as this is a different feed than what the tail lights use. I have drawn new wiring to the connector for the trailer hitch and connected the light to it. This connector wil be needed for installation without soldering onto the existing wires.

I really wish AliExpress would stop forcing the latest regional language of any link clicked as being the default language. Once done you have to delete all AliExpress cookies to be able to get back to the English version. 🙄

Did you manage to get any photos of the process? Also was there any reason you didn't tap into the side taillights, going up the d pillar and down the tailgate?

Good to know. I wonder if taping into the licence plate would give the same functionality as the taillight? Ie are they always on and off at the same time or are there situations where one is on and not the other?

Not always, when you unlock the car at night the lights wil go on but not the licence plate light. Will post some pictures of the installation later.
Any update? Would be good to know if the trailer hitch or the side tail lights are easier to install

Here are some pictures of the trailer hitch connector. Do think this easier to install than the side tail lights. The led light only uses 6 watts.

Thanks for this. Super helpful. Had a look and absolutely trailer hitch is the way to go. Very useful the hitch connector is sitting right behind the left tail light. There is a factory female connector (shown in your second image) with a closed loop on 2 pins. Did you mirror this on your extension lead? And what connector did you use to connect into the taillight (top left fifth image)?

That looks way better. I'm hoping that in the next year there will be some crashed MG4's available that will be parted out.

Joehn. Is this the same pin outs you used for your hitch connector (red markup and red text)?

Interesting thread - planning this upgrade for my SE, but I'll confess that I'll get an auto-electrician to fit mine, Will share this thread content with him.

I'm sure there will be folk here who have installed this kit from Aliexpress? Keen to know how easy / effective it is.

So this links the tail lights to the brake light circuit? It must have an 'or' configuration right? Otherwise you would loose the taillight only function?

Having now picked the car up I can see that this does not really do what I thought it did - hadn't realised that the standard tail lights already light up across the top! I find the Aliexpress website a bit confusing tbh.

Still keen to fit the full width light bar though.
