Glorious sunshine at last, anyone else cleaning your MG

I have all the kit but generally use some local guys just down the road. It saves digging things like pressure washers out of the black hole that is my workshop.
I can relate to that, I'm hate dragging the pressure washer out, it takes longer to set up and put away than it does to do the job.

I've found a reliable one that looks after the paintwork and is reasonably priced. Or maybe coffee is unreasonably priced and makes everything else look reasonably by comparison.

My sister found same, so she sticks to that one. Don't get me started on coffee, I'm not a tight Yorkshireman but bloomin Eck!!...2 coffees for nearly a tenner...and still there's queues at the counter. Reminds me, I'm going to put 't kettle on. Have a great day and best wishes to everyone here.

The bigger issue though, surely, is whether these 'guys just down the road' and those 'schmucks' are operating legally? It seems that 80% of hand car washes are employing illegal labour.

So, unless you carefully do your due-diligence, you are feeding these bad practices.

Just like the Uber's, Just Eats & DeliverPoo's too :(

I'll cook my own food and my OH is happy to wash the EVs.

That's why I won't use them out of principle. I work hard, pay my taxes, water rates, electricity etc like millions of others. By using/encouraging these criminal enterprises, you might as well condone burglars, muggers and the other criminal enterprises that are springing up and such a blight on our high streets as well.

Some may not be illegals, some may be legit, many many are not. I'm just not comfortable encouraging criminal enterprise and try whenever possible not to, my sister doesn't care, she says they do a nice job cleaning her car. Judging by the long queues of cars to get washed, and deliverpoo riders at takeaway outlets others aren't as bothered either. I guess they are fulfilling a demand.

You would think that the ones working out of business car parks would be legit. Waitrose and Tesco will check them out, surely?

Waitrose!!! How posh is that!! Lol. You are probably correct, the legit ones at supermarket car parks. I'm not sure if they have due diligence responsibilities, I'm sure they ask if there's liability insurance as a minimum. but for every 1 of those operating out of their car park there's most likely dozens operating out of disused forecourts and spare land. Heaven knows how they get the water and electricity and how it's billed out!!! In my area there's not 1 operating out of a supermarket car park, yet there's at least 4 within a few square miles operating from old forecourts and disused premises.

You would think so, but who knows.
I do know at my local Tesco, hand wash. They crashed a Bentley, through pratting about.
That doesn't make them illegals though.
After all we've got enough pratts of our own. 🙄🙂👍🤪

Ouch, that's take some explanation to the insurance.

A few years ago the ones operating out of a container in Sainsbury's car park disappeared after a visit by immigration.

My niece lives in a flat and now brings her car round to me to wash it after the car wash she had been regularly using appears to have sprayed the wheel cleaner liquid on her bonnet. They took no responsibility and it cost her £500 for a bonnet decontamination and respray. Makes an all singing Karcher look like a bargain.

Waitrose isn't even all that expensive, and the stuff is better quality. Food is something it's not worth skimping on. It's your health.

To be honest I'm not even that bothered if some of them don't have their immigration status right. The system is awful and people get stuck in it, unable to work, for years. It's shameful and as long as they aren't up to no good I'm not going to worry about it.

I thought that a lot of supermarket ones were shut down because a) many supermarkets don't own or operate the car-parks and b) there were issues as to who was responsible for waste water discharge on those sites.

It's shameful and as long as they aren't up to no good I'm not going to worry about it.
Being paid cash-in-hand, not declaring it for income tax and/or NI is, in my mind, "up to no good" :(

What I mean is that I'm sure most of them would gladly go legit if they had the opportunity.

The one I use now and again have had the same "Boss" for several years, though the other workers change quite often. Surprisingly, two of them were English! (or spoke English well enough to fool me!)

I went over and had my ZS washed, and heard him say quietly to an obvious new "boy", "There are cameras on this car under the mirrors, make sure you give them a good clean, it's the little things that count".

I was quite impressed, and watched him checking the way his workers were cleaning the cars - he obviously values return customers!
