Selling my MG 3 after major issues. My car has done less than 5,000 miles and is just over a year old.
I have had a number of issues. A brake fluid leak, Main screen going blank, sat nav regularly recalculating routes and the engine emissions fault.
I have had the engines emissions fault since august and still unresolved. On my first visit to my dealer they had the car for 2 days and did nothing. They said they where unable to connect to the MG diagnostics system so was reschedueld. On my next visit they did a software update and the engine emissions light stayed off for just a day. Since this software update my engine revs excessively upto 5,000 rpm on slight inclines and is reluctant to change gear. The dealer has refused to accept there is a problem and says its normal. With regards to the emissions light it was in the dealers for another 5 days and the exhaust gas recirculation valve was stripped. A new valve was ordered. My car was booked in again at MG Hawkins Hayle to have the valve fitted. I travelled all the way to only be told on arrival that the parts had not arrived so a totally wasted jouney. I had also arranged time off work to attend. I requested to speak with the service manager who was not y at his desk. I asked for a phone call but non has yet been made. Quite upset so changing car and leaving this group. Also I paid £18,495 for my Trophy and my part exchange price was only a disappointing £14,123

Hi Clive, Replacing with a 1.8 Toyota Corolla Hybrid. Thanks to everyone for your help and support.
Enjoyed my MG for the 1st 12 months until the problems started.
Hi Radar sorry to hear about your problems, I can guarantee you won't have any problems with your Toyota Corolla hybrid, I previously had the Toyota Corolla GR sport hybrid a fantastic car 70 mpg no problem with it.and no gearbox problems, different gearbox and remember it has a ten year warranty provided you get it serviced at Toyota dealership and the Dealerships treat you like a human, Christ I don't know why it tadeed mine for MG 3 hybrid until the crash test failure, have the zs hybrid now gearbox slightly better but will be getting the new software update when available. Enjoy the Toyota.

Sorry you had so many problems and hopefully the Toyota is better . Don’t be to disappointed in the trade price . I bought my hs hybrid + for £26400 and put it into the Arnold Clark price check after six weeks and they offered me £22000 🤣🤣

I test drove a Corolla, it was a lovely car, very smooth. My only problem was it seemed a bit small inside compared with cars of a similar size, but I guess it would be quite similar to the MG3, so a perfect replacement for you.

IAM sure you will enjoy the Toyota Corolla more than the mg3 . One bonus you won't have Toyota saying to you that it's a chararistic for a engine to rev itself to death, I enjoyed my Toyota Corolla hybrid when I had mine 👍 ps the fuel economy is great.

Perhaps this thread and my other one i began today (Finally given up!) should be merged!
I persevered for 18 months and 9,000 miles with my MG3 HYBRID TROPHY, but further engine emissions fault issues arose - this time suspected problem with Hybrid battery, and the standard response from MG UK - best summed up as don't care that i could be left without a courtesy car for an unknown period of time, and the dealer having no cars till January, was the last straw.
As i said on the other thread, I was prepared to put up with the engine revs, and other issues mentioned, simply because of the incredible value for money these cars offer.
Unfortunately if you have an unreliable example, and you have to rely on the aftersales, you could face big problems!
Eventually the algorithms that MG have for cost ratios of dissatisfied customers, will start to affect their new car sales. At the moment any reputation for unreliability and lousy customer service is being compensated for customers drawn in by the value for money (like me), and not worrying what happens after if there's problems.
As I've said to MG UK in the past, their predecessor, British Leyland vanished for thinking there will always be people to buy their cars until their unreliability became a national joke, and by then it was too late.
I do wonder whether SAIC in China are aware of what's going on...
