I have used my granny charger for my PHEV almost every night for around two years. Last week it failed to charge (as indicated in the dashboard), although the LEDs on the charger itself were normal (remember, I’ve been using it for two years with no problems), and the car will take a charge from another granny charger - so I’m pretty sure it’s my charger that has the fault.
I took it to the dealer who has confirmed that it has a fault. He spoke with MG HQ in England somewhere and they have said that the charger is only covered for one year, as opposed to the car warranty of seven years.
I’ve ordered a replacement charger from an EV Charger specialist for £125 - the MG branded version comes in at a staggering £380!
I have to say that I’m disappointed with an otherwise perfect service from MG.
I’d be interested to hear if anyone else has had a problem with the Granny Charger. Please don’t post advice about getting a tethered charger etc., I‘m just interested in the Granny Charger (That’s the charger that comes with a 13A plug).
Thanks
