Halogen bulb replacement

Hi All. Any tips on how to remove the cap on the bulb holder for the main halogens on the ZS EV? I have bought some Osram Night Breakers but can’t get the caps removed. They turn a little but no more and I don’t want to apply any pressure in case I snap a clip or something ...

If any one has removed them, would appreciate some guidance. Thanks

I've not done it myself yet, new bulbs still in box awaiting doing, but I think the caps only turn a bit then simply pull off.
Someone will correct me soon enough if that is wrong.

The caps are very stiff but will come off with a little force. Once you’ve done one you’ll be confident. It’s not the caps that tend to break but the clips holding the connector to the bulb. Be extra careful with these.

Yep, I had the same trouble trying to turn them more than they go.
Turn them till they stop then pull off with the little tab on the cap.

Just done mine - I replaced my original bulbs with Koyoso LED's (like a lot of other members).

Light is now fantastic and so much 'whiter'! ?

I turned the caps until they 'stopped' and pulled the tab, which was a bit stiff, but mine's came off pretty easily and I can only suggest 'wiggling' the cap - pull from the tab, then pull a bit if you can get your fingertips in between the cap and headlight from the opposite side of the cap and then repeat until the cap 'pops' off.

As Dave53 and Cocijo have said, it's the clip that holds the bulb housing to the power cable that's a bugger to shift. The power cable is too short to pull out and away from the headlight housing so you can get a proper grip of both parts to use a screwdriver (or similar) to lift the edge of the clip and pull the bulb housing away.

I broke one clip but I'm not worried about it.

To be honest I don't think they needed the clips in the first place because it's a very tight and secure fit without them.

The caps on mine were almost impossible to get off! Took a lot of swearing and grunting to finally free them off. As for the tabs, quite a few people break them; they seem excessively fragile and poor quality.

When you put the new bulbs into the headlight, how do you know if it is in the correct position? It's impossible to see the connection to the headlight.

I used the position of the power cable to gauge the position of the LED's.

I installed a pair of Koyoso's and the power cable is perpendicular to the LED's which means that as long as the cable is pointing down, then the LED's are in the correct position.

I also shone the headlights against a wall and twisted the light bulbs slightly to get the beam as best as I could.

Take a picture with your mobile and it will act as a reference for you, as mentioned how the wite sits is a perfect reference for you, watch the clips that hold the bulb connection to the wired connection very brittle.

I have just replaced mine with Osram HB3, I broke a few of the fins before putting on a pair of washing up gloves so I could get a proper hold on the cap. when i replaced the cover I put loads vaseline on the rubber washer.

The thing i found strange was each cavity for the bulb contained a pouch of silica gel for absorption.....

I also had silica gel in the headlights! I wasn't sure if they were supposed to be left inside and if they'd affect the LED's reflecting the light or how the packets of gel would react to the increased heat from the new bulbs, so I took them out - do you think they'd be better left inside?

Also, I could see my wife's face if I were to pass her on the way to her car wearing Marigolds and carrying a tub of Vaseline! ?

I believe led’s run much cooler than halogens - so less heat and less chance of condensation. I left mine in.

Thanks Cocijo - I'd prefer to have left them in so they could soak up any moisture but wasn't sure. Now I know others have left them in, I think I'll put them back!

They can't affect the reflection of the light, they aren't inside the actual reflector, they're inside the headlamp housing but behind the reflector.
