Have you noticed fuel prices going up

Anyone remember Marvin, The Paranoid Android in the original Hitcher's guide series "Me, with a brain the size of a planet, dragging around boxes, it's so depressing, I don't think I'm going to enjoy this at all ...

“The first ten million years were the worst. And the second ten million: they were the worst, too. The third ten million I didn’t enjoy at all. After that, I went into a bit of a decline.”

Well charging the truck

That reminds me my MG5 needs a charge tonight
Also good job my work hack don't need diesel

What sort of range does it get? I know that will be dependant on load, but how much of a difference between having a trailer on, and just the tractor unit?

And what does the prime mover on its own weigh, complete with a full load of electrons? ;)

We all go on about the different “feel” of our ev on the road. The smoothness and added verve, and how we’d be loathe to go back to an ice vehicle.
Are these sentiments the same with these larger machines?

I know this is a tad off topic, so it might need to have it's own thread, I'll let the moderators decide ....

Even in the ICE powered heavy vehicles, the Fuso 8.6ltr diesel 6 sp manual didn't hold a candle to the Ford petrol/LPG 6.8 ltr V10 4 sp auto (3sp + OD and lock up converter)
Even though this one is 3 ft longer and weighs 3 tonne more, plus the added weight of the trailer and MG4 51 bring it up to 12.5 tonne, the hill climbing ability is chalk and cheese.
The diesel, even with 2 ltrs more engine capacity and two addition gear ratios along with all up being 5.5 tonne lighter, required looking into the near future to determine which gear to be in at the base of the hill, get it wrong and you either crawled up in 1 gear too low so had to avoid over revving, or lost two gears if you where in a gear too high, once the torque was lost, it required a down shift of two gears to allow the motor to spin up as the motorhome rapidly slowed .....

The Winnie will approach the same hill in overdrive lock up converter, pull up the hill until the revs start to die back excessively, the release the converter lock up and hold the same speed, or even accelerate up the hill.
Just love the performance, 2 kms/ltr takes the shine off a bit, so I'd love to convert it to either hybrid or full EV, that ability the 3 phase electric motor combined with a VFD inverter to produce huge torque through most of the range would suit this Winnie down to the ground, the V10 6.8 ltrs and associated radiator and fuel tank gives plenty of weight available to replace with an electric motor and batteries ........

The Nullabor won't be easy. But there is plenty of room, for wind and solar farms out there.
Yes, but the longest gap between major roadhouses from Adelaide to Perth is 200kms, so well within the 480km range, or even 520kms the manufacturer claims they have tested. But even the 480km range to 20% and allowing for a head wind doubling the energy use, that still leaves 60kms in hand without digging into the 20% margin .....
Also interesting to see the Windrose uses LFP cells, not NMC, the explained reason if for long cycle life, but it might be that 20% to 80% recharging window the NMC suffers, is only 420kwh useable from the 700Ah capacity, rather than the full 700Ah from the LFP and it can be charged to 100% SOC every time ....

I was thinking the biggest problem is getting mW charges out there.
It will require big battery storage and decent sized solar arrays to handle the big current requirements,.
ABB already make and sell the Mega Watt chargers, or two CCS2 chargers plugged in parallel that are capable of the 1000vdc required and coupled to voltage boosters from the DC battery storage for direct DC to DC charging .....
