Headup Display?

Was going to post this bit in things I have learned about the S6 today but given there is now a HUD thread don’t want to get a stern telling off by a moderator.

Anyho, today the sun was out and so was I, first time wearing my newly arrived polarised prescription sunglasses ( mild prescription for driving, totally legal without them 😎) and the polarisation means you can’t see the HUD in the lowest brightness setting I normally use. Just sayin like.

I got myself a new pair of prescription sunglasses as well back in December. At the time I did think about polarised or non-polarised lens. Mostly I would wear those sunglasses for driving in the summer and I did think that most cars now use digital display and polarised lens could be an issue so I went with non-polarised.

Interesting. To be fair the polarised are very good, yes it means an adjustment to the hud settings, but have to say I think it’s worth it.

Mg Software is actually build on Android Automotive
Didn't know that. but it doesn't have many of the native functionality. It's quite different to 'vanilla' android automotive, and there are many things missing. Seems quite heavily modified.

The UI is a custom Launcher and all the features are their own apk

Anyone tried the AR settings on the HUD?
It worked for me a couple of times, showing street names to the left and right, then stopped working and now I can't get it to work at all..
Not something I'd use in anger, but would be nice if it worked...

Not yet, but when the other half returns I'll give them a go. I take it it's display mode in the HUD menu?

If the OS is on top of Android, is the sat nav built on top of Google maps ? Does it take into account traffic congestion while routing ?
You have it the wrong way around. The OS (operating system) is Google automotive, but the applications and user interface is done or modified by MG. I've not found anything about traffic in the satnav settings.

It's supposed to have a live traffic updates but I don't know how that works since I haven't used it yet. I prefer sticking to Google maps as their updates are actually live with user data on closed roads, traffic, police, roadworks, etc showing on screen and the screen layout is already familiar.

If MG navigation is not showing any changes during the navigation, such as alternative shorter route or icons with roadworks, it would seem to me that it's pretty obviously not a live traffic navigation. Even if it takes live traffic info to calculate the route from A to B, if it doesn't update it during the drive, it's not really "live" ... I'll post a video on infotainment, there is a part about navigation too.
