Well after a small scare earlier this year with the big C, I'm ending the year with another one.

About 6 months ago my arm became really itchy, no big deal but it persisted. I saw my GP and she suggested a moisturiser daily, prescribing a suitable one. I used the cream daily for about 3 months and my symptoms were much reduced and were pretty much non existent for the last 2-3 months and I stopped using the cream.

I noticed about 8 weeks ago that the bottom of my forearm felt tender, a little bit like if you have sunburn or an abrasion on it. Leaning onto a table or wall etc it was noticeably more uncomfortable than my other arm. A while ago, a lump appeared about the size of an egg cut in half along it's length. It wasn't particularly painful just uncomfortable if pressure was applied. I really hate troubling my GP but I was nagged to surrender by my family and I went to see my GP.

My GP was instantly concerned, I expected a local anaesthetic, a scalpel and out with it, nope, wrong. Referred to hospital for an ultrasound scan, not just any hospital but a Sarcoma Centre. She explained that whilst she wasn't certain it was a Sarcoma, she thought it was highly likely. A Sarcoma is a rare form of cancer that can attack bones, soft tissue or both. It is treatable if caught early hence my urgent referral.

Today I had a biopsy done of the lump, it made my eyes water a bit I must admit. The specialist said that in his opinion from the scans it does indeed look like a Sarcoma. The size and position of it is OK for surgery followed up by radiation treatment. They do need to check that it hasn't spread due to its rate of growth, mine apparently is quite rapid and therefore needs sorting quickly.

So as before boys and girls, don't ignore anything out of the ordinary, get it checked out. I'm not worried by the way on this, I won't lose any sleep, if it is the worst of all things, I can't complain, I've had more than my 3 score years and ten :)

Have a very Merry Christmas all of you.

J

Well the NHS seem to be on top of their game in Nottingham so I very confident in their abilities (as always TBH).
In my daughter's case the NHS were poor up until the point of diagnosis, then brilliant thereafter with their treatment and care plan. The hardest part was getting the GP to refer her for the diagnosis. (She developed Stage 3A Hodgkin's Lymphoma aged 24 ... she's 27 now and has been in remission since June).

We moved to Gainsborough and signed up to a great GP practice, over the years it declined terribly and when our GP left it went to the dogs. We moved to another practice 4 years ago and the difference is amazing. If you want an appointment you go via their ASKMYGP system and usually you get a same day or next day appointment, they're absolutely brilliant and exactly what the NHS should be like IMHO.

Sorry to hear that, mate.

Good luck with the treatment

Good advice!

And to you and yours, hopefully possible despite your news.

Why worry about things you can't change?
I've always believed in this, I don't have any decisions to make, I can't change anything so why stress over it? It's a bit like a roller coaster, once it's setoff you have no control, no decisions, you're just along for the ride, just like me here :)

Not to diminish what you are going through @johnb80 and I wish you the best.

I think the same way. Some things you have no control over and you can't prevent happening so why get upset about it but it doesn't stop my friends and family worrying.

I have rheumatoid arthritis which is a chronic autoimmune disease with no cure just a lot of nasty drugs to shut down my immune system and hopefully slow down its progression but I accept that that's me. I get pissed off because of the pain sometimes and the stiffness of my joints but that's who I am.

Thank you, I hope you too have better times ahead.

Yep, that's what's occurring here.

No matter what your situation is there's always someone worse off..... you my friend are much worse off than me by the sounds of it, it sounds awful. I hope you can get some respite from your pain over the coming festivities.

Take care - J
