HS PHEV
Hi, just joined today so thanks for having me.

Just bought a MG HS PHEV ex demo last week and have discovered a couple of puzzles that I cannot sort out in my head.

1. All the adverts/reviews state that you can expect about 75 miles on EV mode when charged to 100% however when my car is at 100% it says fully charged 31 miles of range. I don't have anything else that could be affecting it i.e air con/heaters/windscreen defrosters on. Have I just misunderstood? I've spoken to the salesman but am still awaiting a reply!
2. Even when reading the handbook I seem to be unable to get cruise control to work, the sign comes up on the dashboard but won't increase the speed I want it to set to. Is this because the car has to be going at the speed I want to set it to?

Sorry for being a dummy but new to it all.

Range guess on full EVs is generally based on recent efficiency. Maybe yours has had low efficiency in the recent times?

"*Range figures provided are calculated under test conditions. EV only driving range of 75 miles WLTP combined. These figures are for comparative purposes only and may not reflect real-life driving results. Actual range may vary depending on various factors such as weather conditions, driving styles, vehicle load, and accessories fitted post-registration."

It sounds like they are saying 75 miles is the best case scenario. Though on the other hand the battery is fairly large so I would have thought 75 is reasonable for around town driving in the summer.

On the MG4 when you press the cruise control button it should apply it at the speed you are going at that time. There is a joystick which can be used to set a different speed. If you tap up on the joystick it puts the cruise control back on at the previously selected speed.

Don't know if it is the same for the HS.

You have the older HS PHEV with the smaller battery and 31 miles is correct for this car. The new HS PHEV will do 75 miles in EV. On the left side of the steering wheel you have two storks, to set the cruise pull the bottom one to you one click then when you have a speed you would like to maintain push the blue button on the end off the stick. You will get up a different screen in front of you. If you push up or down the stick it adjust by 5 mph if you push the stick and hold it up or down you will see it change in 1 mph but can be fast doing this.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have been made to feel a wee bit stupid as it is indeed the 2024 model which does only have the 31 miles EV charge. DUH!

Do you have the 2024 car or the new 2025 model?

The new model has the 75 miles on EV mode when charged to 100%.
The earlier car sold in 2023-24 has :
  • 16.6 kWh battery.
  • maximum electric-only range of 62-63 km (38-39 miles), after a full battery charge.
