Hello, how can you update the navigation system, an old map does not give all the places, where can you get the 2025 file?

Hello Max. My satnav has mysteriously updated itself without me knowing. Before you ask, I know because there have been some seriously heavy duty road alterations where I live. In fact they're not actually finished yet, but the satnav shows them this week. The only problem I've got is that she is constantly 'recalculating'. Drives me mad. H

You should be able to update the maps from the system page, there are details on how to do this in the navigation manual - however my new MG ZS EV (with old maps) navigation device doesn't have an SD card, and after a lot of trial and failure I found that to do the first map update you need a usb device formatted with specific software to write the "fingerprint file" (i.e. the copy of the data on your head unit which the web application needs to configure the updated maps). The dealership should have provided that file on a usb with the car, but they didn't. So I'm off back to the service department to get them to sort it out for my first update, then I'll either do the updates myself using the usb, or get it done as part of servicing.
I will update this forum with the results.

First update is not good news - although one dealer representatve I spoke with (at a different dealer than I got the car from) was adamant that the dealer needs to provide the initial fingerpring file, my current dealer disagrees, so I had to make another attempt and send this dealer the results (which basically result in failure because the usb I have currently doesn't have any fingerprint data on it to be updated). I have tried two re-formtted usb sticks, and have asked the current dealer to help - meanwhile I will buy a "virgin" usb (<32GB, because I need a FAT32 format, not the newer exfat) and try agan.

You put the fat32 usb in the car and create the initial fingerprint file and it writes a file called synctool. I tried to update the maps but Navitool box does not recognise the usb drive. The latest maps on Naviextras are feb 2024. I have spoken to MG customer services who say use Naviextras but there are only maps listed for old MG 3. My dealership says maps will be released later in the year and will not be using naviextras. Best to wait for confirmation.

Second update is also not good news .
The service department couldn't fix the issue, so now I have to get the dealer to go to the manufacturer (i.e. Naviextras) and either sort it or replace the unit.
I strongly recommend anyone buying a new MG with a built in GPS tries to get the dealer to generate a fingerprint file for you before you take possession of the vehicle (it should take them less than ten minutes and cost less than $20 Australian). If they can't create one then they shouldn't be selling you that car, since it has a faulty component!

I would say that's just works advice all sat navs get that info. You have to physically update your maps. It doesn't happen over the air..

Having tried unsuccessfully to update my maps using the original Naviextras toolbox, I managed to update today using toolbox v5.25.

Now showing Q2 2024 version and I wonder when we'll see the 2025 update.
