How to see MG’s Sat nav map while using phone?

Hi, advice please:
How can you see the MG Sat nav map screen while also using the phone?
I was driving using the built in MG satellite navigation system, and then used the phone. The car display screen just showed the phone/dial view. Coming up to a junction where I needed to know if I need to turn off or not, the system display didn’t revert to the map view so I ended the call. Is there a way of getting the map view back or to show while using the phone hands free?
Edit to add: 70 plate car - sorry don’t know model, was husband’s car but recently widowed so don’t know much! Also phone is iPhone but a company phone and locked from using Apple Maps or anything….

I use android auto for maps, however have you tried (whilst incall) pressing the volume button in?
This normally takes you back to the home screen, from there you should be able to press the sat nav in the centre .
I only found out by accident but if you are off the built in nav screen and on the home screen, the centre nav part will show you the next turn if it has an active route.

I have the same problem with my 74 plate MG5 trophy it’s annoying but I’m able to use CarPlay which solves the problem
