How long can I sit idle, "engine running"

In the 1980s a colleague locked out of his van left it idling for 2 days in a car park and when we returned it was still running. It was from memory a 1600cc diesel van. No ill effects. We were amazed it hadn't stalled. The van had additional Yale locks on all doors so couldn't be "Slim Jimmed" with parcel tape.

Sometimes, especially in hot weather(I can't stand being too hot) I sit in my car, turn the A/C on, lock doors and have a snooze or watch video, listen to podcast. I've been in 5 hour snail pace traffic jams.
Is there a maximum time I can sit parked up or is it until the HV battery gets too low?
 
That what I would think but rember that the A/C running will drain quite a bit.
If you have a full charge, I would imagine you have days worth of HVAC. If you sit in the car and turn on the HVAC, then press the "left" button on the steering wheel, you will se how many amps the HVAC is drawing from the traction battery. Just a simple calculation then to work out how long it will run for.
 
Yes, I get that it will run until the HV battery is exhausted. What I wanted and probably didn't formulate my question well was to calculate how long likely I could run the AC without testing it empirically by sitting in the car for 4 days, or with a thermal camera.

I was sat in my car and a railway crossing, the sun was shining and quite warm.
It got me thinking about your query.
I shut everything off except the fan and my car display was show 0 Amps being drawn I turned the AC on and listened to the compressor start instantly the Amps raised.
The compressor ramped up and so did the Amps but only to 3A.
The compressor slowly got hold of the load and ramped down and stabilised at 2A.

The initial load of 3A and a battery voltage at 380V meant the compressor was pulling about 1.1kW. At 2A it was 760W power consumption.

The hotter the weather, the more the load but it will tick over at about 1kW on a nice sunny English Spring day.

A 75kW battery means it should last about three days allowing for my bad arithmetic 😎

Which level crossing? I used to audit them as one of my many jobs.
 
Main London to Edinburgh.
Crossing North of Doncaster between Bentley and Arksey.

During the day they can be closed 45 minutes in the hour with wait times of a few minutes to as long as 20.

They are famous round here and watching 10 - 12 trains go past is not uncommon 🤔🙄

Bjorn tested the original ZS in upto 45C weather for itsEV camping ability.
His final estimate was 3 days.
