We've had a 2025 PHEV for six months, not a single problem.

It worked OK for a few journeys yesterday, but after parking in the second supermarket it wouldn't work. Engine and oil lights on, and it wouldn't go into either Drive or Reverse - so no good. Tried turning off and on a few times, but no change.

Phoned MG Assist, who were helpful and were sending someone from the AA in about an hour. I thought that I'd try the battery disconnect in the meantime, so undid it for about 12 minutes. It came back to life, error message clearing after turning the steering wheel. Cancelled the MG Assist and drove home the 8 miles OK. Charged overnight and it still worked OK this morning.

As suggested by the AA, I phhoned the dealer and they've booked the car in next week, so can't complain about the MG Assist/AA or the dealer, but I wonder if it's just one of those software glitches.

Bit disappointing, as neither our MG5 and MGS5 have ever let us down, but lucky that I had the 10mm spanner handy :)

I’ve had that happen in mine. You need to check your steering wheel is straight before selecting a gear. The error message flash’s up but then disappears so I missed it first time.

The steering wheel and hence the wheels were straight.

So what error message did you get prior to turning the steering wheel?
It gave a number of errors, as I understand it this is normal when the battery has been disconnected. Usual advice is to turn the steering wheel and drive for a bit.
