The free standing unit I bought is very noisy, blows out plenty of cold air, I don't suffer from the heat, so I have only tested it.
If you want aircon, have a split system fitted, I think you can buy a DIY pre charged system, whisper quiet internal fan, outside fan will make a noise like your MG aircon.
The uncharged version is charged the same as a car: pull a good vacuum and weigh in the refrigerant.

Will fit a split system when I move house. DIY not easy and you need an Fgas engineer to commission/sign off if they will do it on a DIY system. The portable air con unit shown in my post is not too loud and the window kit works really well.

If you believe the reports we may see a lot more of warmer weather in the next few decades so home aircon in the uk may not be so rare.
