An update on potential accessories would also be useful.
Will there be any roofbars? I know it's a peculiar roof design and the frameless doors don't help but there must be a solution. I have seen quite a few posts on social media of people not going ahead because of this.
Towbar?

PET MODE. I do not understand why this was taken away. Regulations have absolutely nothing to do with it. You are unable to leave anyone or anything in the car without the alarm sounding.

Clearly the software is there as people mentioned it originally being available

Hi All,

I've got a meeting this week with the head of IM Motors.

If anyone has any feedback that they'd like to provide? I'm thinking of software bugs, any persistent teething issues, something that we could sort with an OTA in the near future?

I know that IM Motors themselves are on with rolling out a couple of patches soon, but if anyone has anything they'd like me to raise with them, please let me know.

Thanks,
Miles
I think it's absolutely crucial to highlight that the lack of auto-dimming headlights and the bad efficiency figures of the performance models (which gets quoted everywhere) are 2 biggest reasons many people have decided to not go for an IM. It makes business sense for them to look into fixing these ASAP. MG also seem to hand their performance models for range tests, which is like shooting themselves in the foot.

I had a problem the night in fog, not sure if it was me, with auto lights on, I tried to turn on rear fog, and system said I had to turn lights on! I presume it meant I had to come out of auto lights and turn on headlights in settings.
Doesn't seem right to me.

I’ve got a few bits of feedback and questions that might be worth raising.

First, some settings on the IM5 don’t seem to persist. For example, if I turn off adaptive display brightness, it re-enables itself the next time I get into the car. This is particularly noticeable because the adaptive behaviour itself can be quite erratic, with the screen often getting brighter and dimmer for no obvious reason. It would be good if these preferences reliably stayed as set.

Second, door handle behaviour. I think an option for auto pop-out door handles when shifting into Park would make a lot of sense. A common scenario is pulling up to pick someone up, putting the car in Park, and expecting the handles to present automatically. It took me a long time to realise there’s a manual button for this on the driver’s door, and it also seems the passenger can’t open the door from the outside using the touch sensor in that situation.

Battery display is another one. It would be really useful to have the battery percentage shown somewhere in the car UI. On a recent trip, the car showed 39 miles of range remaining, but the app wouldn’t show a percentage because the battery was considered too low, which was a bit confusing/worrying.

Bluetooth / CarPlay audio delay is also an issue. There’s a noticeable delay when changing tracks or playing and pausing music over Apple CarPlay, and I’d assume the same affects Android Auto and standard Bluetooth. As an example, I finished a journey tonight and closed the PlexAmp music app on my phone, but the car continued playing audio for around 10 seconds afterwards. I’ve never experienced this kind of delay in my previous car (a Nissan LEAF), so it’s not something I’d expect in a much more expensive vehicle.

Another CarPlay-related point: when using CarPlay, pressing the home button on the centre display exits CarPlay entirely. Ideally, the home button shouldn’t do this, or at least shouldn’t do so while CarPlay or Android Auto is active.

Dashcam/DVR functionality is another area. I know it’s possible to loop-record from the front camera, but it would be great if the rear camera could also record continuously as part of the dashcam setup.

Finally, what’s the situation with the Mag Hub attachments? It doesn’t seem like MG UK is planning to officially offer any accessories. The phone holder shown in the demo images, in particular, would be a really nice option to have available.

TL;DR: A handful of usability and software polish issues around settings persistence, CarPlay/Bluetooth behaviour, door handles, battery visibility, dashcam features, and accessory availability.

I agree with all of your great points but the handles shouldn't extend when you switch to park imho. In every car I have had, the driver has to unlock the car on stopping for someone on the outside to be able to open the door, even with handles available to pull. I think auto unlock when you park can be quite dangerous in certain situations.

All I’d like is a toggle to enable this or allowing the person on the outside to extended the door handle when the car is in park.

I agree should be off / not enabled by default

Oh I forgot one thing, that could possibly cost MG a lot of money if not fixed. The ability to turn off auto folding mirrors

I don't have mine yet, but I have a few requests.

1. Please allow the rear view camera display to be moved. It's obscured by the steering wheel.
2. Give the option to dashcam record with more/all cameras.
3. Add a speed limiter. I might be in the minority but I find it far more useful than cruise control.

Thank you

Hope Miles has got a long meeting, with the Head of IM motors. 😉🙂👍
Might need to order breakfast and lunch!! Albeit most of the issues are software related.
I don't think there is a quick fix for poor efficiency, seems to have caught out a few people. It's was talked about loads on social media prior to the first deliveries.

Night driving blackout - a mode where all screens and interior light are mostly turned off, just showing the speed in front of driver with as low brightness as possible, as long as there is no error messages. Saab had this for years, inspired of the fighter jets.
Does Rainy day mode offer that?

Yes I forgot about these issues in my post.

The rear view camera, while nice that it can just pop up, is a bit obscured by the wheel. A setting with a few different options of where it could appear would be nice.

The speed limiter! I used this constantly in my LEAF and always wonder why it isnt an option in the IM5. Maybe the paddles on the back can be used to set the speed limit when not in any pro pilot mode?

I think it should be in the centre of the main drivers screen...

One more thing that I believe it will be easy enough to apply and can make a lot of difference safety wise.
Pin to drive. All Teslas and BYDs have it.
What is the benefit unless there is some evidence of a shortfall in the current security? I do not want to have to press anything before I drive.
