What is the benefit unless there is some evidence of a shortfall in the current security? I do not want to have to press anything before I drive.
It is an option to activate with BYD, Tesla and Leapmotor cars.
You don't have to activate it unless you want to use it.
It can be an additional safety for any attempt to steal the car. Even if you manage to gain entry and start it you cannot drive it.
And there are plenty of cases of Huyndais and Kias being stolen with relay attacks.
This can be easily copied over to IMs being premium cars and once they are in the car they will just happily drive them away.
One of the main reasons that Tesla's are the least stolen cars is the pin to drive.

And there are plenty of cases of Huyndais and Kias being stolen with relay attacks.
I am very familiar with the Hyundai problem ( I do not think it was strictly a relationship attack as they did not need any access to the keys of the key’s signal). However, we do not know if the IM has this vulnerability so personally I would pref not to have any more complications.

I'm starting to think a poll would've been better to separate the must-haves from the nice-to-haves. Everybody seems to want whatever their favourite feature was on their previous car or some car that is seen as an alternative for the IMs, which is fair but distracts from the main pain points/expectations that most people have. I started creating one but realised that the meeting probably is happening imminently/has already taken place.

I cant see where the complication is since it is optional. You activate it if you want to. You don't have to use it.
There are many benefits though by having it and at the end of the day it is down to the user.

As for the relay attacks they are quite common at this point. Unless you have your keys in a faraday box all the time. A pin to drive resolves this.

Yes it's just like a pin for your phone or laptop isn't it, use it if you want, don't if you don't, so a 'Pin to Drive' would be a good option.

Hi All,

I've got a meeting this week with the head of IM Motors.

If anyone has any feedback that they'd like to provide? I'm thinking of software bugs, any persistent teething issues, something that we could sort with an OTA in the near future?

I know that IM Motors themselves are on with rolling out a couple of patches soon, but if anyone has anything they'd like me to raise with them, please let me know.

Thanks,
Miles

Pet Scene - or just simply the ability to disable the interior sensors is a must.

It’s completely absurd that you cannot leave a pet, or for that matter a person (eg elderly mother, child, etc) in the vehicle and then secure the vehicle while you go into the shop, post office, etc. for a few minutes.

I just received a response back today via our dealership (Hendy MG in Poole)…. :

“MG UK have now formally responded, and I would like to confirm their position and the resolution available.

The “Pet Mode / Pet Scene” feature is not available on UK-specification vehicles and MG UK have confirmed that there are no plans to introduce this feature to the UK market. The owner’s manual you have referenced is a global manual, produced for multiple markets, and as MG UK have advised, not all features described apply to vehicles supplied in every region. This is why some features shown in the manual (such as Nap Mode) are present, while others are not.

The UK brochure and official MG UK specification, which form the contractual description of the vehicle, do not reference Pet Mode or Pet Scene. At no point did MG UK or ourselves represent this feature as being available on your vehicle, nor was any confirmation sought from us or the manufacturer prior to purchase. On that basis, the vehicle supplied matches its UK description and specification.

Having reviewed the matter carefully, we are therefore unable to accept rejection of the vehicle under the Consumer Rights Act, as it is not mis-described, faulty, or non-conforming to the UK specification.”

Totally useless - no where does it say that this capability is not available on the I’ll model, they’re taking the view it’s entirely up to the purchaser to ensure every feature is/isn’t there.

They clearly don’t care now they’ve sold the car, which if they truly want into the premium market they need to address.

Is there any actual internal alarm sensors in IM6? I've had my big dog in the back of it several times, with the car locked, and never heard any alarm actually.

Are they wrong though? Has it ever been advertised for the UK spec? I've never seen it on their site or in the sales brochure, nor has anyone mentioned it in the various youtube impressions/reviews I've binged while researching prior to putting my order in.

If it was important to you, did you confirm prior to purchase? If you were explicitly mis-sold and can prove it to them, that's one thing, but you can't expect them to advertise that it doesn't come with x or y. They're not to blame if you ordered based on a foreign spec.

Want them to also advertise that it doesn't come with LIDAR or electrochromatic sunroof, rear led animations etc.?

I agree with most of this issues - I would also like the screens to be more customisable - I don't use tiktok, apple, YouTube etc

Miles,
it may have been mentioned but a battery percentage somewhere prominent on driver's screen would be good. The current mileage is quite small - maybe a little larger?
Thanks
Mark

Yes if you sit in the back and have someone lock it from outside, wait then move, the alarm goes off. Does it with our dog in the boot as well.

Don’t get hung up with “Pet”

Under scene; It’s in the IM6 UK manual along with Nap Mode, which is there, but neither of those are described in the brochure.
No where does it say not included in the UK model.
No we’re didn’t specifically test it, but then I’ve never had a car that I couldn’t lock while leaving a pet, or person (eg elderly mother) in the vehicle and lock, while I go into a shop.
All I can do now I’d leave my mother in the car and leave the car unlocked - she’s not so mobile and it’ll be difficult to get her out every time and make her stand around - you could say it’s fine to leave unlocked in some scenarios, but I bet we’ve all stopped in places where we’d never wish to do that! Ditto with the dog.

Ok, I've read through all of these suggestions, together with those on the MG IM5 & IM6 (UK Owners) Facebook group

This is the list of user requests which I will present to IM Motors on Thursday morning:

1. Software Updates & Digital Experience
  • OTA Transparency: Confirm the rollout schedule (expected late 2026) and clarify notification methods for OTA vs. dealer-required updates.
  • IM-Specific App: Requests for a premium IM app to replace the "basic and unreliable" MG iSMART.
  • App Logic & Data: Simplify the binding/setup process to prevent date/time mismatches. Add comprehensive trip stats (miles/kWh, efficiency, and usage) in both the app and car UI.
  • Multi-User Support: Clarify and improve support for households with multiple IM cars and multiple drivers on the same account.
2. Driver Assistance & Safety (The Pilot)
  • System Recalibration: Smooth out "The Pilot" and ACC to eliminate "phantom" braking (especially near trucks/corners) and juddery speed adjustments.
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA): Critical fix required to prevent the car from dangerously pulling toward lines rather than centring.
  • Feature Separation: Allow easier selection of standard ACC over Pilot until the latter is stable.
  • Speed Limiter: Add a dedicated speed limiter function for urban driving.
  • Customisation: Allow users to change the number of "comfort flashes" for indicators (currently fixed at three).
3. Performance, Efficiency & Regen
  • Drivetrain Selection: Add a manual 2WD/RWD mode or an "AWD on Demand" logic to improve the poor efficiency of Performance models.
  • One-Pedal Driving: Implementation of a true single-pedal mode and much stronger, persistent, and dynamically adjustable regeneration.
  • Power Limiting: Ability to limit BHP output in Eco mode to preserve range.
4. Vehicle Access & Security
  • Proximity Entry (Digital Key): Enable true "Phone-as-a-Key" (Walk-up Unlock / Walk-away Lock) without manual app intervention.
  • PIN to Drive: Add a security PIN requirement to drive, matching 2026 competitors (Tesla/BYD).
  • Power-Off Logic: Allow the car to be fully powered off via a double-press of the "Park" button or automatically upon "Walk-away Lock."
  • Handle & Mirror Logic: Add options for handles to pop out in "Park" and a toggle to disable auto-folding mirrors.
  • Hardware Reliability: Improve key card sensitivity in frost and provide two full fobs as standard.
5. Infotainment & Screen Logic
  • UI Customisation: Allow users to edit the home screen. Remove the "static car graphic" and allow apps (Radio/Climate) to take that space.
  • CarPlay/AA Integration: Ensure the "Home" button does not exit CarPlay on the top screen. Fix the 10-second audio lag and frequent Android Auto disconnections.
  • Central Screen Utility: Replace G-force/trip data with persistent radio or HVAC controls.
  • Web Browser: Add an embedded browser for streaming/web use while charging.
  • Night Mode: Implement a "Saab-style" one-touch blackout mode and allow the bottom screen to dim further.
6. Cameras & Recording
  • RHD Camera Placement: Relocate or allow the movement of the rear-view camera feed (currently obscured by the steering wheel).
  • Sentry Mode & Multi-Cam DVR: Enable 360° recording (front, rear, sides) for both driving and parking (Sentry Mode).
  • Digital Mirror: High interest in a permanent camera-based interior rear-view mirror.
7. Battery, Charging & Climate
  • Pre-conditioning Clarity: Provide a manual toggle and clear UI confirmation for battery heating. Clarify if navigating to a charger triggers this automatically.
  • Charging Logic: Add finer charge limit controls (e.g., 5% increments) and show persistent Battery % on the main driver display.
  • Pet/Dog Mode: Urgent reintroduction of the mode to maintain cabin temperature while locked.
  • Heating Intensity: Improve the speed and peak heat of the cabin, seats, and the "weak" steering wheel heater.
  • Winter Mode: A "Wiper Service Mode" to park blades on the heated section of the glass.
8. Hardware, Accessories & Support
  • Mag Hub & Accessories: Clarify UK availability for Mag Hub attachments (phone holder, tablet mount) and the folding rear passenger display.
  • Approved Consumables: Provide a list of approved roof bars, towbars, and wiper blades.
  • Brake Hardware: Redesign rear guards to prevent stone jamming.
  • Training: Better IM-specific technical training for MG sales and service teams to improve the handover and repair experience.
