Too late to add 2 of my wishes @Miles Roberts CG ?

- Can we get the adaptive cruise control to set speeds it might know from either speed sign recognition or navi so we don't need to set it manually when speed limits change?
(this was mega useful on my previous Skoda)

- Option to disable interior alarm when locking car (as asked by others on this page and previously described as pet mode).

Thank you!

I've got 2-3 hours with them. Probably I'll give them the list, and they'll speak to engineers and let me know later what is achievable.
Apprently pet mode cannot be introduced, it can only be added to new models..... Although other manufacturers just added this over a update so go figure

  • OTA Transparency: Confirm the rollout schedule (expected late 2026)
Late 2026? I thought someone said it was slated for Q1.
Would be nice to know what updates are planned for the immediate future, seeing as most of us will be a third of the way through our contracts by late 2026.

Miles Roberts CG many thanks for this.
A really comprehensive list. Based on my experience the majority of these requests, if not all, are software related so hopefully we will see them being gradually rolled out.
Eager to hear your feedback once the meeting takes place. Fully understand that they will need time to evaluate and provide timetables but it will be interesting to know their reactions and how receptive they are to the proposed updates.

At the end of the day making the most out of an already really good platform will be for the benefit of both the clients and the manufacturer!

@Miles Roberts CG Re the pet mode...

Based on my CHatGPT research (see Pet mode / Internal Alarm Off) it might be worth just asking them for a facity to temporarily turn off the internal motion alarms.

This is such a major issue for me as I frequently travel alone with my dog in the car, I'm actually looking into whether I can cancel my order or change to a car which does allow it!

There is a setting to adjust the mirrors when in reverse, put the car in reverse, adjust the mirrors to a position you want then I think you confirm by pushing right hand steering wheel button.
It's in the manual somewhere, as I like it, and set mirrors to move.

Hi Miles,

As others have also said, this may be too late, but....

Is it possible to override the door mirror deflection when selecting reverse please? I, for one, find it more of a nuisance than a benefit when reversing around a corner!!

I cant see where the complication is since it is optional. You activate it if you want to. You don't have to use it.
There are many benefits though by having it and at the end of the day it is down to the user.

As for the relay attacks they are quite common at this point. Unless you have your keys in a faraday box all the time. A pin to drive resolves this.
The complication is another tech thing that can go wrong.

As for relay attacks, they were/are common but they need access to the key or its signal. That was not how the Hyundais were being stolen. Also as the keys go to sleep if they are not moved for a short time a faraday box/pouch is not much use.

You can change it. Just select reverse then adjust the mirrors to where you want them.

I am sorry for keep coming back to this but what complication are we talking about?
It is just another option which you can activate or not if you wish so.
With this mindset having auto dimming headlights is another unnecessary complication.
Or any other improvement that needs software tweaking.

Having operating this in both Tesla and BYD I found it and still find extremely useful and an additional level of insurance.
I had to go and buy a Faraday box just for the IM. Never worried about the BYD or the Tesla.

Also the keys going to sleep? What do you mean by this? I have seen countless videos with cars being stolen in the middle of the night with relay attacks. I presume these keys were 'sleeping'?

Finally the Faraday box does indeed work. I tested it; hold it in my hands with the keys in and I tried to unlock both our cars. No joy. The moment I opened it up they unlocked.

Hmmm, I'll have to try this again. I did read the relevant manual section, but for some reason when I set the mirrors to the same angle in reverse gear as I have in forward gear, when re-selecting forward gear the mirrors tilt to the original reverse gear position!!

I agree, a PIN is good protection (although really it also needs a secured ODB2 port to avoid bypass).

Faraday box is a good idea anyway. I use pouches, they work well just need replacing every year but inexpensive.

The complication is that it is something else to go wrong. I may not tick the box to have a pin but if there is a glitch the system may still want one…… so I would only wish to have that extra level added to the car if there was a known vulnerability.

I know a faraday cage works, but is it really needed. Go to the car and put your keys down near it and open the door. Then leave them where they are undisturbed and try again in 15 mins. The doors do not open. The key has ‘gone to sleep’ and will not respond to any signals until it is moved. This has been the case on my last 3 cars.

Pet Scene - or just simply the ability to disable the interior sensors is a must.

It’s completely absurd that you cannot leave a pet, or for that matter a person (eg elderly mother, child, etc) in the vehicle and then secure the vehicle while you go into the shop, post office, etc. for a few minutes.

I just received a response back today via our dealership (Hendy MG in Poole)…. :

“MG UK have now formally responded, and I would like to confirm their position and the resolution available.

The “Pet Mode / Pet Scene” feature is not available on UK-specification vehicles and MG UK have confirmed that there are no plans to introduce this feature to the UK market. The owner’s manual you have referenced is a global manual, produced for multiple markets, and as MG UK have advised, not all features described apply to vehicles supplied in every region. This is why some features shown in the manual (such as Nap Mode) are present, while others are not.

The UK brochure and official MG UK specification, which form the contractual description of the vehicle, do not reference Pet Mode or Pet Scene. At no point did MG UK or ourselves represent this feature as being available on your vehicle, nor was any confirmation sought from us or the manufacturer prior to purchase. On that basis, the vehicle supplied matches its UK description and specification.

Having reviewed the matter carefully, we are therefore unable to accept rejection of the vehicle under the Consumer Rights Act, as it is not mis-described, faulty, or non-conforming to the UK specification.”

Totally useless - no where does it say that this capability is not available on the I’ll model, they’re taking the view it’s entirely up to the purchaser to ensure every feature is/isn’t there.

They clearly don’t care now they’ve sold the car, which if they truly want into the premium market they need to address.
I'd still threaten and actually speak with consumer rights over it! Weather they think it will or won't do anything, they are not legal unless they have spoke to a legal team. I just don't understand how it can't be rolled out, plenty of people have complained about it already! They need to make a good impression being new to the market, not a bad one

Certainly, if I unlock my car on the key and then don't open the door, after a minute or so the car re-locks itself.
When you say there is no response to signals until it has moved, do you mean the key being moved? Do you have to move out of range and then return? If not, how does the car or key know of the movement? Honest question as I'm trying to get my head around what does and does not work with the key.
I do use a faraday pouch but the IM5 key, especially if it's in an AliExpress key mount, is a flippin' tight fit!

The MG 4 was new to the market and some early cars were a shambles as was customer service, it hasn't held MG back any in the UK.
I get that IM are pitching at a different market but I still don't think you will get any joy

It is the key that sleeps as it is that that is left unmoved.

This is the part I'm having trouble getting my head around. As I mentioned, I can open the door on the key, then, if I do nothing (i.e. I can put the key down near the car, or stand there, next to the car, with the key in my hand), and after around a minute or so, the car locks itself. However, and here's the confusion, I can open the car again immediately, or if you like 15 minutes later, using the key.)

Hi All,

I've got a meeting this week with the head of IM Motors.

If anyone has any feedback that they'd like to provide? I'm thinking of software bugs, any persistent teething issues, something that we could sort with an OTA in the near future?

I know that IM Motors themselves are on with rolling out a couple of patches soon, but if anyone has anything they'd like me to raise with them, please let me know.

Thanks,
Miles

YES PLEASE. To be able to disable the internal sensors for the car alarm so we can leave our dog in the car for a short time while food shopping without the alarm going off.
