IM6 or Model Y?

You will enjoy it; trust me. I will be surprised if it does not feel bigger to you too.
I felt like driving one of those big Discovery ones. Could be though because I have spent the last 6 years driving a model 3. In no point though it felt awkward or tricky to manage.
I don't think that removing the headrests will make any difference to be honest. The back window is like looking through a porthole.
Not unsurprisingly the rear view mirror is tiny and can be completely folded. It like IM admits that it is useless.

Do MG fit a PM2.5 filter in your country?
I'd have thought that 100% essential.
I have no idea what the PM eating is on my air filter. This is a question you should ask MG support.

Total cost for 5 years of service here in Thailand is ฿14,843, $468.04, €399.19, £345.26. Chump change

Regarding the rear view, I have grown to prefer the rear view video on the dash over any rear mirror ever. For one, the video is far bigger than any factory rear view mirror I have ever used. It shows a large FOV (field of view) in great detail.
Then there is the situational awareness factor. When you are looking straight ahead, your vision extends naturally about 20° to 30° downward, and pretty much zero degrees upward. The contents of the mirror are not making it to your eyes, however, the downward extent of your vision will alert you of activity in the video.
It appears aerodynamics took precedence over rear window view.

Unfortunately, it appears the only cars available for test drives atm (certainly in my area) are the ‘launch’ editions which will likely drive quite differently to the LR. I have a test drive booked for sun but will not make any decisions until I can drive a LR version.
Hello Mike. You ask a very difficult question to answer. Ride quality, as you surely know, is extremely subjective and relative to something else. Comparing it to my previous Mazda 3, it’s about the same. Of course my data is completely useless to you if you don’t have access to a Mazda 3 for comparison. This is something you will have to experience on your own in order to make an informed decision.

Its just a type of filter you will have it, unfortunately MG support in the UK are worse than useless.

That will not cover two years in the UK I would imagine so it won't be chump change here

Hi all,

Thank you for the feedback so far.
I watched this video last night; quite informative but being from a dealer it may be biased?
I have approached 2 dealers so far for a test drive; both don't have it.
No information either on service intervals.
I am hoping for this week since I must admit it looks promising and ticks a lot of boxes for me.

For a bit more content I also test drove the BYD sealion7 since the wife owns an Atto3 and the Xpeng G6.

The BYD is a very nice; plush car. But that's it. Horrendous efficiency; mediocre charging speeds, unbelievably small boot for a car of this size and although it is a great cruiser on the motorway within the city or any twisty roads it drives like a boat...

Xpeng on the other hand it is just nice. Nothing special about it. Feels a lot like the first gen of Model Y. Also, and a bit of surprise for me considering other Chinese EVs in the same category; materials a bit on the cheap side.

I am staying away of European middle SUVs... mediocre driving behaviour and software that any developer should hang their heads in shame. Also everything seems to be an extra.
Consider Leapmotor
Hi all,

First post on the forum from a potential new owner.

I am in a very peculiar situation at the moment and I am looking for some opinions on the matter.
I really want to replace my Tesla Model 3 since it will be 6 years old this December. I have quite a high mileage so out of warranty already and 1 year left on the battery and motors. Started to have some hefty bills recently with repairs out of warranty.
Furthermore I have FSD on the 3 and currently tesla allows transfer as long delivery occurs before the 30th of September.

2 candidates at the moment. Juniper AWD and IM6. Need the bigger boot with kids being older and a dog in the mix..

Have test driven the Juniper and really liked it. Feels a good upgrade vs the previous one which I had the chance to drive as a rental. Did another test drive this time with the wife accompanying and her feedback was the following:
''Typical Tesla, very spartan interior (which she is not very fond of). Massive improvement on build quality and noise levels. We could actually whisper to each other while driving at 75 mph. Wife loved the storage capacity. As she mentioned we will probably not need the roof box if we go for it. So overall feedback was that the car does not have the wow factor but it is a really well built car that suits our needs finely.''

Started the process on the order; waiting for trade in evaluation at the moment. Looks like that I will be in position to have delivery before end of month so I will have the FSD transfer applied.

That gives me about a week to see if I can have something with MG. So far and from what I have seen on reviews is that it is a decent car; loaded on tech but a big unknown in the UK...Bit worried about parts availability, service levels and all that comes with a brand new car brand and model in the country...
Forgot to add that based on Aussie reviews it also requires an annual service. Big disadvantage this vs the Y. First three don't look that bad price wise (would reckon around £200 on conversion) but the 4 year one is around £700!!!

Still cant find anywhere to test drive the IM6. Local garage said by end of this week but we all know salesmen talk.
I have managed to find some PCP deals on it and looks like a bit cheaper that then Y; and I am talking about the top spec version which is essentially comparable to the performance Y.
Still my concerns remain regarding service and level of support...

Did anyone manage to test drive the IM6? Any thoughts on comparing the 2?
Are we expecting different service intervals in the UK? I know for example that BYD in Australia is every year while here every two.

Apologies for the long post; would love to hear back from you guys.
Also consider Leapmotor C10 or B10, great value for money if it's the kind of vehicle you're after...

This forum has been so useful.

Im hoping to hear from MG soon for a test drive.
Good points about trim too. I wonder if can be driven with the air suspension off?

Can anyone share information on headlights and night time driving? I know there's no clever matrix lights with the IM6, does it have follow me lights? Are the full beam bright and wide? Any info and opinions would be appreciated.

Right; I have a further update.
Managed to have a second test drive yesterday with a local dealer.
Proper shambles...Test drive was booked in advance but when arrived the car was 1% on battery....
They were like no worries it will be fine. No way. I had them to charge it; waiting for 30 minutes.
That gave me the time though to check the boot properly since I had brought luggage with me :)
All fine in that aspect; I am less worried now and confident that it will take everything in for a family of four going on a holiday/trip plus the dog crate (not large though heh).

Then to my surprise the test drive was for 30 minutes only... Just managed to run it around some local roads where I wanted to investigate behaviour on speedbumps etc. Car is fine and I reckon the air suspension helps a lot. Not sure how the other versions will be since it is a quite heavy car.
On the way back parking in front of the dealership entrance was tricky. Vertical spot free but cars parked everywhere; I just couldn't.
Hit the autopark and was done in like 10 seconds...Pretty spooky although I am used to it from the Tesla. Main difference is that the IM system is super fast and extremely confident. I was having my foot hovering on the brake and when it was done I was white lol...It was approaching the parked cars down to the cm....Very impressive.

I reckon I would order it. Very impressed with it. Only thing that is holding be back now is insurance....Tesco is the only one who quoted me for 2 and half grand!!! No bloody chance..
The sale rep was like yeah that is normal for a car of this HP. Ehmm no its not.

I will wait..

Btw thanks for the recommendations on the leapmotors. B10 looks good but is bang on the same with with my wife's BYD atto3 thus small. As for the C10 very small boot for the car of this size and it is lacking on auto adroid or car play while its own software is a disgrace....

My IM6 purchase included one year of top tier insurance, along with the lifetime (whose lifetime) warranty on the battery and electronics. Obviously that is not a ‘guarantee’ that nothing will break. They will replace the part(s), not sure about labor. For the first five years of service, the charge is for parts only. No labor charge.
I agree about the reverse parking, really accurate and far more aggressive than I would do it. However, it clears neighboring vehicles by a few centimeters, and stops equidistant from the two side lines, and appropriately close to the rear line. Now if I can get it to recognize a parking space in my garage …

Hi evets. Thanks for the update. It looks like in Thailand you are getting far better deals than here...
I come from Greece originally and I do envy the insurances over there and how different approach there is ( you insure the car regardless of who drives it, price the same regardless of where you live, what you do, if you have kids or not and all this malarkeys we have here in the UK.

I am sold on the car; have cancelled the model Y order already. Just need to wait for a proper insurance price before I pull the trigger.

@NikLiverpool I do hope that after a good experience at Chorley Group, and a less satisfactory experience at the other dealership, that if you do decide to move ahead with an order for the IM6 you would consider using Chorley Group for the purchase?

Would surely do so. As mentioned only thing that holds be back right now is the insurance...
Your representative at Chorley was kind enough to assist me with even running the licence plate of the demo car and still no joy.
Hopefully just a couple of weeks delay in the process.
