Important Questions before receiving MG3 Hybrid Luxury?

Hello All,
How is everyone?
Thank you very much for your advices. I really appreciate it.
I’m simply quite worried about the costs and the issue regarding the gearbox and hilles that’s been mentioned in Israel.
I know it’s not related, but what do you think about the Seat Ibiza 1.5 FR? Would you recommend the Seat Ibiza or should I stick with the MG3?
I want to keep the car for a minimum of 5 to 6 years.
I’m concerned about the depreciation, the battery that might fail, or the engine that could break down.
I would appreciate your opinions, please.
Thank you for yours time.

The Seat Ibiza is already out of date when it comes to engines, and comfort is particularly spartan.

With VW's current difficulties, I wouldn't put a single dollar into such a car.

Hi,,,,my advice is MG3 hybrid plus...This is very, very fast car ,and don't forget it is not sport car...To keep this car in perfect condition, you must do few things, nothing more nothing less,.In all my
life untill now,I passed more than 2 million kilometers, with no accident,so I know about car ,,,About seat Ibiza,I never drive this car ,and I can not tell you much,,, Probably Ibiza is also very good car,,but my opinion is again MG3,because I have one...So if you take MG3,I will tell you what to do,to have the car in perfect condition. But whatever car you chose, the most important things is the way how you drive,,,,The car is like woman,if you don't use it properly, then you will always have a problem,, 😂,Mg3 outside look small, but inside is very comfort..So this is about,,, Regards from
me,Milan

Hello,
I live in a country where I recently ordered a new 2025 MG3 Hybrid Luxury, which has yet to be delivered.
I've come across numerous reports of serious technical issues with the vehicle through Facebook and WhatsApp groups dedicated to MG3 Hybrid owners.
In my country, the software version being marketed is from April 2024.

Here are the issues people have been complaining about:

1.
Significant difficulty in climbing both small and large hills – inability to exceed 40/50 km/h.

2. Faulty gear operation – the car lingers in gear at the start of a drive and during speeds of 40/90/100 km/h and only adjusts after a few minutes.

3. High RPM and engine noise on inclines – RPM rises above 4,000, with unusual engine noise (screeching), and significant power loss when the battery is drained or even with over 50% charge. The car struggles to maintain speed, especially uphill.

4. The vehicle does not deliver the declared power of 194 hp, and feels like 100 hp on hills.

5. Rear camera – delay in the reverse camera display when switching to reverse gear.

6. Software issues – vehicle settings such as air conditioning, driving modes, alerts, etc., are not saved after turning off the car.

7. Connectivity problems with the Android Car Play system.

My questions:

1.
What version is currently available in your country MG3 Hybrid Luxury?

2. After the vehicle received an update, are all the issues like climbing hills, gear operation, etc., working 100% correctly without any problem for all of you?

3. Where can I find all the version numbers for the car's software and hardware online?

4. What is the latest version number of the MG3 Hybrid, and in which month was it released by MG Global?

5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of your vehicle?

6. Are you satisfied with the car, and would you recommend it, or is it better to cancel the order?

I would greatly appreciate receiving honest and straightforward answers as soon as possible.

Thank you
In relation to the high RPM, if you have the digital heads up display, you can scroll through the different options (by pressing the button that has been circled) until you have reached the "energy flow" section. I was taught a little trick in that section that when display shows 2.6 (where mine is showing 0.0 because its in EV), take your foot of the accelerator and quickly press it again - this will stop the car from over-revving in high speeds. Hope this helps! 😊

...
I have bought a MG3 Essence Hybrid+ in Atherton Tablelands Queensland Australia only 500km driven. On our first attempt to drive over the local mountain range our car just died in power and engine revved very high, could not climb the mountain.
Disappointed.

Had mine for 4 months and covered 2500km and not had any of these problems. I can't fault the car.

Good Morning Tom

I have had my MG3 Hybrid+ for nearly seven months and driven over 3000 miles, I have not endured any of the quirks or apparent faults you have described, the ride remains as smooth and rattle free as the day I collected the vehicle, in short it is definitely the best car I have owned in over 50 years of driving. The pound for pound value for money is in my opinion unbeatable, this even allowing for the recent price increase in the UK.

I add this post hopefully to reassure you, but also to add a modicum of balance to the discussion. I honestly believe what some people are describing as apparent faults are just the characteristics of a self charging hybrid vehicle of which they may have not been familiar with previously. I really hope you are as delighted with your vehicle as I am.

I think that is in the nature of how this hybrid system works .... the system has a few different modes , and i assume that in one of this modes there is not a direct relation between RPM and travel speed.
But rather the RPM also depends on how much the battery needs to be topped up or not. This might feel weird coming from a traditional petrol engine , and give the "impression" the car is lingering in "gear". But in fact is it already storing energy for the kickdown your going to to a few minutes later.

I believe the moral of this story is that this car is really unique, especially if it's your first hybrid car. It can be compared to a Yaris hybrid for example, but totally different feeling at the same time.

The whole point is to learn how your new machine works, what it likes and what it doesn't - and eventually get used to it. Test drive it as much as you can, so you can see if it can provide what you need for yourself.

I haven't received mine yet (hopefully in 2 weeks!) - same as what you ordered by the way, 3 hev MY24.5 Luxury, but from my little experience with it already (test driving it), it seems and feels nothing like my old 2005 lancer 1.6, so i can't expect it to perform the same - and that's exactly why i loved it already. However, at the same time, i do understand that i need to get used to its ways and not the other way around --- hope you guys stay safe over there and enjoy your new mg3 soon :)

I think you're right, stasko, about this car being a one-off. You do need to persevere with its odd little ways and get used to driving it. It's my first hybrid, although I've had many new cars, business and personal. Thankfully I've not had any major issues and I feel sorry for those that have suffered. For me, it's a great little car, good looking, well mannered and pleasant to drive. Aitch

Hi Salty,
Nice to Meet you 😊
How are you?
Thank you for your Help!
I took 15-minute test drive on a straight road (flat surface) and there were no issues.
However, I keep hearing about problems with hills and the transmission, and the last thing I want is trouble with the car. I plan to keep the car for at least 5 years.

1. Do you have any issues with hills or the transmission?

2. What is the version of the software update for the engine and hybrid system that you have?

3. Are you satisfied with the car?

4. Where can I see the entire list of update numbers that were released for the car in the past months?

Thank you very much for your time!
with due respect if you are querying the car now, then it is not for you..

NONE of the issues you have raised are issues, the hill issue has been sorted with the roll out of software happening NOW, gear change, well, the car changes gear when it needs too, and I leave it to that, it is an auto after all...

So YES the MG3 isn't perfect (but no car is without fault), YES it drives surprisingly well for someone who's never driven a full hybrid, YES the rear seat is fixed (NOT AN ISSUE ?), NO the automatic gearbox is sometimes temperamental, NO there are minor bugs (ventilation, heating...), ABSOLUTELY NOT does it consumes more fuel in town, NO there seem to be problems for those who have an MG3 in a mountainous region (SOFTWARE UPDATE IS AVAILABLE NOW), YES servicing seems rather expensive, Here I agree, we are paying less for a Mustang Service than an MG.... they are taking the wee wee on this !

I keep seeing references to the supposed software update for the MG3 Hybrid+ that alleviates the problem of high revving and slowing of vehicle on a hill, but I'm not aware of anything from MG regarding this. Can anyone actually be specific that they have had an actual upgrade for this problem, and some sort of software identifier that I can use to take my own local dealership?

although 19x bhp sounds nice, but we have to remember this car also weigh 1.4+ tonnes. it wasnt that long ago a full size saloon/sadan weigh this much, so bhp per tonne is not as high as it seems. Also, all 19X bhp is only avaliable if you are at the right speed. the motor themself is only in low 100, so even when engine working hard to supply power to it, it will never feel as fast as a 200bhp. the only time when you get all 19Xbhp is if the engine is already driving the wheels directly then the electric motor gives it a boost. at speed, 19x bhp never feels as fast as a proper 19X bhp EV or ICE full throttle from standstill.

Hello. We regret buying our MG3 hybrid, it loses power on steeper inclines and is quite dangerous. It has only done 1400 km and is parked up for the fear of having no power and making it unsafe. My recommendation is reconsider.

Had my MG3 Hybrid+ Essence for 5 months and covered 3000km with some 250k trips and there are many hills in NZ and never had any of the problems mentioned in this thread.
