Had a problem connecting to Instavolt charger at Sostice Park yesterday. Tried three times, and it accepted my card and connected, but timed out each time and would not charge. Phoned helpline who said it was a problem sometimes with MG. Then tried another charger and used my Electroverse card instead and it worked OK.
I was beginning to panic as only had 11% left in the battery. Does anyone know any tips to get the car to communicate better with the chargers, I normally charge at home ithout problem. My car is MG5 pre-facelift. A tip I can offer is to lock and unlock it 5x if the charger cable won't disengage!

Some people suggest locking the car with the fob during the handshake helps.

My prefacelift has been iffy with instavolt on a couple occasions then worked fine on the same charger moments later.

Last long journey I did it was MFG (I think ABB? and Hypercharger) and then a Gridserve medium power charger (ABB?) which worked first time.

The gridserve site did have high power chargers but they were further away from the building and I wasn't in a hurry. (Also it was dead quiet due to the time of evening)

I had one Instavolt failure recently where it wouldn't connect. Unplugging and starting again and it worked perfectly. I think it might have been the plug having not been quite seated properly the first time. Some of these are HEAVY!

I think that the reason locking the car can sometimes help is that it engages the lock on the cable and makes sure that it is properly plugged in.

I have had issues with MG5 SR in the past. I found unsing the instavolt app tp kick off charging appeared to resolve issue.

I sometimes have this, there's an Instavolt hub locally with 6 units, for some reason number 3 never connects with my car, but all the other units are fine

Ive got a pre facelift mg5 lr s and having this issue on latest charger firmware. instavolt support told me on the phone the car is telling the charger to stop charging instantly, but i dont have this issue on any other chatgers, including octopus electroverse chargers.
Does anyone know if this could be due to a faulty charger in the car or if Instavolt just dont work with MGs?

If your car is working fine elsewhere then it's not your car at fault.

This is what I was thinking! I've contacted Instavolt to hopefully find a remedy. They had mentioned for me to lock my car with my fob, plug it in, and while the charger is starting to unlock with the button on the handle. That didn't provide any luck though!
Hopefully we can figure out a fix, but for now I suppose I'll have to avoid instavolt.

I've had a similar issue with the odd Instavolt charger, but some others as well. The charge stops immediately on starting and the charger reports it's the car stopping the charge.

To get around this:
1) Turn the car off.
2) Connect the charger.
3) Lock the car (this also locks the charge connector also).
4) Start charging via app/charge point.

Do NOT start charging unless the charger is connected and the car is locked. If the charger requires you to use payment method or tap start to remove the connector from the charge point, lock the car immediately on plugging it in.

Once charging is underway, you can unlock the car and power on if you wish.

Once a charge fails, my MG5 refuses to charge unless I power it off and wait a few minutes before starting again. Doing the above resulted in a 100% success rate for all rapid chargers.

I also have issues starting a charge on any DC charger if I wait too long after switching off the car before starting the charging process. The car stays 'live' for a short time (and can start the charge) before it turns off the electronics but this is only a minute or so. Once the car is fully off the charge will fail so I have to turn it on and off again.
