Insurance for the MGS5

Though I don't have my car yet, I've started investigations and can confirm that many insurers and comparison sites still seem to have a problem identifying this model.
As advised elsewhere, one successful comparison site does seem to be comparethemarket.
They came up with numbers very similar to my existing MG5:

Just told direct line that I will be swapping cars Monday and it all went through ok online, even recognised MG S5 trophy.

Direct Line were the cheapest (of all the quotes, not just firms I’d heard of) on Money supermarket. Set it up easily and excess half the XPower’s.

Very interesting reading these posts. I have changed from an MG4 trophy to an MG5 trophy my existing insurer, Tesco, declined to quote on the new car as did Direct Line. The Tesco call handler could find no reason why they wouldn't cover the MG5. This was On 10th July. Eventually did compare the market and got insurance with the AA. Tesco and Direct Line did not feature in the Compare offers.

That’s strange with Tesco my previous ZS (ice) was insured with Tesco when I changed to the S5 in May I did have problems getting a quote online but speaking with an agent he told me it was a problem with their system. Got a quote over the phone and a promise to not charge a change fee if their system wasn’t working by then. When the change happened it was an easy job to get it done online.
Since then the car has achieved its 5* NCAP rating which should have made insurance easier I would have thought.

The tesco agent was as bemused as I was. They did not charge me for ending the policy and I had a full pro rata rebate within 24 hrs. It was bizarre that Direct Line also wouldn't quote.

Just arranged my insurance with LV=. There were no issues with recognition of the vehicle and it was all done online without a hitch.
Did it as a "change of vehicle" transaction in the end (not for the MG5 but another vehicle I sold a few weeks back).
