That’s a hell of an increase , have you had any claims/ points , I’ve read that insurance costs were going up, but to treble your insurance is ridiculous . Are you shopping around or contacting them to see if there’s movement on the price

Tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine, preferably sideways. Shop round, pretty sure you'll get cheaper than that.

Last year my policy went from £180 to £370...and comparison sites were suggesting about £500. I did a check the other day and it looks like about £600 this year...no claims in 10 years...so yeah, it's just a rip off now.

My 2 cars went from £760 to £800, which I was OK with, given the average increase reported is 25%

Theres a lot to be said for using a specialist broker, if you have more than vehicle or a specialist vehicle give Howden (formerly A-Plan) Thatcham branch a call. Worst case scenario, you trade 30 minutes of your time talking to a UK based insurance broken and find out they can't offer you better than comparison sites.

My renewal quote from Direct Line nearly choked me, last year £501 this year £1039, I tried comparison sites, and for the cover I get from D/L they were significantly higher.

I left it a fortnight and rang D/L and got my renewal for £856.

I'm thinking my age (over 75) is now a significant factor, Liverpool wouldn't even look at me for that reason.

All the comparison sites required at least £700 excess, with D/L I have to pay £150, I cannot see the point of insurance if you end up paying your own repairs...

I only had Direct Line for a year and my insurance doubled on renewal . So bye bye DL :) . I went to Sainsburys for the next 7 years and , in all fairness , the premiums were pretty stable for that period. Then Sainsburys withdrew from motor insurance and they pointed me to Churchills ..once again the premium doubled . I moved to Flow for about £400 . I was 74 at the time ,so I wait with bated breath for my renewal in July as regards your 75 theory ;) .
Of course , it could just be that insurance companies are taking the P155 ?

Absolutely they are, they've got you by the knackers and they know it. 🤬

Everyone's the same...

£389 last year £630 this... managed to get down to £520 with less excess, courtesy car, etc which the previous policy didn't have...

I blame the fact that the insurers now seem to own all of the repair infrastructure and can manipulate the market to their advantage...

I blame Government policy which prevented insurers hiking up premiums to loyal (lazy) customers who just renewed with their current insurer regardless of increased cost.
The insurers still need their outrageous profits so we all now suffer.

...
And yet we all complained that we had to shop around because it was cheaper for new customers. A case of be careful what you wish for.
