I had to charge up to return home from The Lake District to South Wales.

Ecotricity had a bank 6 chargers I think, in the local supermarket car park.

I tried three times to complete a charge with credit card on the tap and pay. But each time the charge only lasted several minutes before stopping.

I thus downloaded the App, and put £20 of credit on it, and have to say, the charge went well, and I reached 90% in reasonable time.

My point is that now Ecotricity have £8.00 of my money credited to their App. Unsure whether other Electric suppliers do the same, I know I have £10 banked with BP too.

As I only use public chargers when on my travels, which happen maybe several times a year, it is likely to be quite some time before I can use up this credit.

Just the thin end of the wedge I think.................

You need to get an Electroverse card. It works with many of the main operators and you don't have to be an Octopus customer to have one. Just link a bank card to the account, no pre-loading needed and the operator of the charging station doesn't take a deposit out of your account.

Sadly this is quite common. I needed to make a credit to BP Pulse in order to charge a couple of years ago. I haven’t used BP since then. To my surprise I received a credit from BP after about a year of inactivity. The credit more or less matched what was in my account. No explanation from BP.

To avoid topping up lots of accounts, use the Electroverse card wherever possible.

Thanks both, I will do that...:)
Ecotricity were bought out by Gridserve many years ago. Any remaining Ecotricity branded chargers will work with the Gridserve app with no cash deposit required (card registration required though). The Ecotricity app as far as I know is only applicable to Ecotricity account holders (home electricity ?), so I'm curious as to what the situation is here.
Of course unfortunately Gridserve is not available on Elecctroverse.
